What can I take on an E170?

I have a flight on a Republic E170 in a few days and I am trying to figure out what I can take on the flight.

In the past, I haven't really had the opportunity to formally "check" any of my baggage on a RJ (in this case I am using the term loosely). I always took all my bags to the plane; where they were gate checked and thrown in the cargo bay.

So basically, I am wondering if I can pack hair gel, sunscreen, shampoo, et cetera for this flight and somehow "check" my bag, so that the big bad TSA doesn't throw all my liquids/gels in the garbage.

KA,

Right now you can't planeside "check" liquids and hairgels, etc. These items are not allowed inside the secure area. If you want to take those items along, you'll have to check your bags at the ticket counter.

That said, what you can take onboard the E170 is similar to what you can take onto a 737 or DC9 in terms of size. (Full size overhead bins)

So I cannot check a bag (in the traditional sense) for a 170 as I would for a 73, everything has to be done planeside?

Yes- you can check a bag through to the destination at the ticket counter or curbside. That would be the only method of getting your various grooming products to your destination. Sorry I thought you were referring to planeside checking your bag (containing your gels and stuff) in your first post.

No need to apologize, I am very thankful for any legitimate advice. I'm headed to training and I am trying bring everything along with me that I can, so that I don't spend $50 at Walmart when I get there.

Short answer: if its a gel or liquid substance (hair gel, shampoo, lotion, sunscreen, soda, liquor, beer, butt lube, whatever) it has to be checked in before you go through security unless you are a flight crew member with appropriate ID and you are in uniform. So suck it up and just check your bag if you absolutely positively have to have it. You can also ship a box of the stuff to yourself if you're one of those people that are really paranoid about checking bags with the airlines.

As far as overhead bin size, I think standard roller bags will fit without too much trouble.

So what's the deal if I am a crewmember in uniform with a badge, but I am not flying that day/I work for another airline, just jumpseating on another to get home?

Never heard of anyone having a problem jumpseating. Ive never been asked to prove that I am flying that day. The badge and the uniform has been enough.

I've wondered if I would catch hell from the TSA if I lost the uniform before I boarded the aircraft for a non-rev flight.

Any thoughts?

I dont have a problem checking a bag. I just want to make sure that if I do check it, the TSA will not disgard my stuff anyway.
