Cape Air Pilot Position

I was wondering if a person who was flying for Cape Air on the Cessna is considered a CA when flying in the left seat or rather a PIC. I thought they flew Single Pilot for the cessna. I am just curious.

I think the company considers them to be captains......even if they are single pilot. That's like being a CFI at a flight school that enforces uniforms and the CFI's wear 4 bar epaulets with the rest of the "monkey suit".

Had a guy from there on our Jumpseat. He had four stripes so I'm sure he's a Capt. Not 100% though. :)

The company calls the position "Captain" in their job postings, so it's "Captain" according to them. Besides, they do sometimes have "First Officers" on some flights - I believe only when some things are MEL'd like the the autopilot or something like that.

Maybe their op specs require two pilots in some situations. I believe that Alpha Flying out of NH (they fly the PC-12) are operating traditionally single-pilot planes with a two person crew because of the op specs, so in that case the PIC is "Captain" too, even though flying a plane that was built for single-pilot ops.

If you're wondering about how this would look on a resume, the word "captain" doesn't matter or not.

What matters is...
Part 91 / 135 / 121 SIC or PIC. Within those, the type of equipment you're operating.

I dont think its like that at all actually. You want to get on a commercial flight with a pilot wearing a t shirt and jeans?

So if a pilot flying passengers is not a CA what is he/she than???

I see it as a CA!

I fly a single pilot jet with passengers in the back under 135. Most of the time, I have a "first officer". He's typed and current.

I don't call myself Captain.

...I call myself:

Supreme-Master of the Universe-Admiral-Commandant-Lord-Baron von Minitour

That's what I'm putting on my business cards.

For short, you can refer to me as the Lord.

Guys...does it matter?

If you're assigned as the PIC, you're the PIC. Whether they call you "Captain", "Sir", "PIC", "Pilot", "Yo", "Dude" or "Hey You", it really doesn't matter. You're still the PIC.

I had a TSA guy yesterday call me "captain". I quickly told him that he is never to refer to me as that. He is to call me Supreme-Master of the Universe-Admiral-Commandant-Lord-Baron von Minitour. And don't you be forgetting it!

+1, really who cares?

Are you asking if there are 2 people who are qualified as captain? Alot of 135 outfits have two people PIC typed and qualified but just one acts as captain on a leg/trip/whatever. One is designated PIC and the other SIC. Its a joke at our company to tease the guy who "plays" captain because that means they have to do all the paper work.
