Default crash pads

I understand the purpose of a crash pad. But, do I need one all the time or only on reserve when flying for an airline. Once I hold a line, do I still need one?

That all depends on the lines that you are able to hold.

Odds are that you will probably need one for just a little while as a line holder, but once you get the hang of trading trips and/or are able to bid and hold commutable trips, you could get rid of it.

But really it all depends on airline, base, senority, where do you commute from flight sked, etc.

Too many factors to get just guess.

It's usually cheaper than a hotel but if you are only in town for a couple of night a month then I would get the hotel with a shuttle. On reserve get a pad because its just better if for cost and homeness.

The problem comes when you have an early am show, you'll need to get in the night before and if you can't get home for your late return you SOL wo you'll need a place for that.

Crew scheduling seems to think this is the best schedule to **** as many crews off as possible and make it as much of pain in the ass to commute as possible.

85% of airline crew base cities are toilets, often with a high COL.

That is why so many commute...

ATL sucks?

I miss ATL, and will kill to stay in the ATL area.

Seriously, get over it. I was just kidding. But, you will be much happier if you can live in your base.

Btw, I've never heard of anyone denying a j/s for that reason, have you? Really?

Of the six bases I've been in, there is no way I would have been happy in any one of them. With the exception on one, all base changes were due to closure or displacement. If I was to live in base, I would have to move on average of once every ten months.

How happy would you be if you had to pick up your crap, drag your rear to some other miserable place, and find a new place to live this often?

There is a reason people commute.
