Gulfstream Chapter 11
Gulfstream International files for Chapter 11
On Thursday November 4, 2010, 4:51 pm FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Gulfstream International Group Inc., which operates a regional feeder airline and an aviation training school, said on Thursday that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company said its flights would continue as scheduled. It operates 23 Beech propeller planes that carry 19 passengers. The flights generally connect smaller towns to larger airports, many of them for United Continental Holdings Inc. Gulfstream said the filing was prompted by borrowing in recent years "to cope with consistently high fuel costs and the economic impact of declining traffic," which made it difficult to pay its debts. CEO David Hackett said in a prepared statement that it has received "strong interest from a number of investment sources" but they all wanted the company to restructure its debt before they invest. In June 2009 the Federal Aviation Administration said it would seek a $1.3 million civil penalty against Gulfstream's airline, saying it violated regulations on how many hours pilots and dispatchers can work, and improperly maintained equipment. The airline said at the time that the problem was confusing records and not broken rules. It settled with the FAA for $550,000 in July. Gulfstream spokesman Bruce Hicks said the fine was not a factor in the bankruptcy filing. Gulfstream also came under scrutiny last year because the pilot of a Colgan Air flight that crashed into a house in Buffalo in February 2009 had trained at Gulfstream's academy and flown for Gulfstream's airline before joining Colgan. The bankruptcy filing in the Southern District of Florida covers the parent company as well as the airline and Gulfstream Training Academy Inc. The company said it employs about 600 people, and does not expect any layoffs because of the filing. Gulfstream shares lost most of their remaining value after the bankruptcy filing. After closing on Wednesday at 55 cents, they fell 39 cents to close at 16 cents. |
Guess the FO's aren't paying enough for training!
|
What a shame
|
This is one company that no respected pilot will shed a tear for if it liquidates.
|
Cry me a river...
I guess this means a tuition hike next semester? |
Those a-holes can't make an airline run when they are getting paid by their employees??!!!
Let them hang!! Oh I can go to sleep happy tonight !!! Ha!!! |
It just says they will be restructuring their debt. I don't think they are going anywhere.
I have a major beef when other pilots want to put other pilots out of work. I've never understood all the hatred. |

Out of work??? Half of them are PAYING to fly those airplanes...that's not "work".

Hey, no hatred to the pilots! Especially since I'm a former Beech driver. But I'm not gonna lose any sleep over this either. Employees paying for work is total BS.

oxymoron |ˌäksəˈmôrˌän| noun a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction That place can't close fast enough. I'd be happy to see them go under. |

Gulfstream is a boil on the ass of this industry! |
Gulfstream is the lowest form of airline "academy" out there. Don't let this company fool you. It's an academy disguised as an airline. There "pilots" pay essentially three years of salary to fly for this dump. This place needs to crumble and burn! I'm on a hiring board and every time we received an application with gulfstream on it we would quickly throw it in the garbage where it belonged. The last three airline crashes had one thing in common. The captain went through gulfstream. Gulfstream keeps this industry in the dumps! Good riddance!
|
Here's to hoping for Ch. 7
Good riddance |
I don't like Gulfstream as much as the next guy. However, lets not forget. The pay-per-viewers are FO's. There are Captains there whom were hired off the street that actually got their job at Gulfstream without having to pay. At least this was the case just a few years ago.
Yeah sure, they might not have made the best choice in a regional airline. However, the Captain pay is better than Great Lakes or CummutAir. |

The first symptom of SJS. |

Well, actually I do have a bit of SAPUS (shiny APU syndrome), but flying a SAAB in Texas, during the summer will do that to you. ;) |
Say what you want about gulfstream, but SWA has hired MANY captains from there.
|
PFJ/PFT Twice?!?!
:(
So that means that they had to pay for a B737 type too??!? SWA = great people, great company, but the B737 type requirement, even if they'll interview you w/o it, sucks IMO. Justify it if you will, but that is something that I hope dies with the Airtran merger. OK, fire away... |
