Pinnacle hiring freeze

I have an interview Aug 29 and today i was called and was told that Pinnacle is having only 1 class Sept 11 due to a hiring freeze, Is this a bad sign?

FlyerJosh 08-22-2006 05:45 PM

It's certainly not a good sign... it might mean that there is some significant news on the horizon that could affect staffing levels. Particularly if they aren't going to hire into a "pool".

Did they cancel or postpone your interview?

Space Monkey 08-22-2006 05:48 PM

No body knows besides were all waiting to see what happens of the 25th... The only good news is they finally came out with another CA vacany 17 slots.. needless to say Im hoping my name's on it.....

buffalopilot 08-22-2006 05:51 PM

they did not cancel or postpone it. Initially i was told that class was the end of Sept or Oct. Now they said Sept 11th is the last class for a while!

What is the 25TH?

Judge Rules That NWA Flight Attendants Can Strike

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A federal bankruptcy judge on Thursday denied a Northwest Airlines Corp. request to block a strike by its flight attendants that could begin as soon as Aug. 25.
Judge Allan Gropper in New York wrote that he does not have the authority to block a strike as Northwest had requested.

Flight attendants have said they may begin random, unannounced strikes after 10:01 p.m. EDT Aug. 25 unless Northwest negotiates a new contract with them. Northwest imposed pay cuts and work rules on flight attendants last month after they voted down a negotiated settlement.

"Now, Northwest management has one more chance. They have the choice to either set greed aside for once and agree to a fair and equitable contract, or they will face CHAOS," the union's acronym for "create havoc around our system," said Mollie Reiley, who runs the Northwest branch of the Association of Flight Attendants. "Management needs to reduce their demands and do it in a hurry."

A Northwest spokesman said the company did not have an immediate response to the ruling.

The union has not said what kind of strike it plans; it could range from a occasional, unannounced strikes at specific gates or flights to a full-scale walkout. The idea is that even small-scale disruptions can cause passengers to book away from an airline, giving the union leverage.

Gropper wrote that federal labor law generally bars federal courts from blocking strikes, and nothing in bankruptcy law overrides that, wrote Gropper, who is overseeing Northwest's reorganization under Chapter 11.

Northwest has negotiated settlements with its other large unions, but flight attendants have twice voted down negotiated deals that would have saved the airline $195 million a year. Flight attendants have said Northwest has asked for cuts that were too large.

That is what happens of the 25TH.... Bottom line if the mainline FA's strike odds are that NWA will have to go Ch. 7 (liquidation)... With no one to fly for there is no Pinnacle....

NWA to renegotiate Pinnacle's service agreement
Wednesday August 23, 11:07 am ET

Pinnacle Airlines Corp. has been notified by Northwest Airlines Corp. that the legacy carrier is "ready to engage in negotiations with Pinnacle on a possible new or amended Airline Services Agreement," according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by Pinnacle.

The new ASA will replace the existing one between the two companies.

Renegotiating the ASA is possible thanks to the NWA's Chapter 11 bankruptcy status. A renegotiated ASA will likely mean Pinnacle (NASDAQ: PNCL - News) will need to provide the same level of service for less money, as NWA is seeking to cut costs.

In the Aug. 18 notification to Pinnacle, Northwest (Pink Sheets: NWACQ - News) indicated that, as a condition to beginning discussions, Pinnacle must complete negotiations with its pilots union for a new collective bargaining agreement.

The collective bargaining agreement between Pinnacle and its pilots union became amendable in April 2005. Since then, both parties have worked to complete a new agreement, but have been unable to do so, according to Pinnacle's SEC filing. On August 22, Pinnacle filed for mediation with the National Mediation Board.

Probably has something to do with it...

The one and ONLY reason that this class is cancelled is becuase they were hiring a lot because they thought that everything with nwa would be settled by now. SInce it is not, they are just removing one or two classes. HR has said normal hiring and classses will resume when its all said and done.

Do you know if the Sept 11 class if full yet?
