Pinnacle MEC Currency Requirement

Should the Pinnacle MEC Chairman be required to maintain aircraft and line currency? Can a leader be effective while being detached from union member lifestyle while not flying the line for over 2 years?

Can a leader be effective while being detached from union members when they don't fly the line at all?

Is it necessary for a union leader to even be a pilot?

While I have personally brought forward multiple resolutions requiring currency on the MEC level I have 1 question that is a followup to your poll....... Are you willing to chop the head off the chairman to get current when we need to have a leader in the room to ensure 1250 guys don't get steamrolled? There is a time and place for everything and my PERSONAL opinion is that he should NOT have ever gone non-current. That being said, right now is NOT the time to send a guy to the schoolhouse. Especially considering the politics involved. If Dec. 2 comes and goes with no TA I guarantee he will be getting current, if not it will be taken care of. FWIW he is doing his RGT this month and will be in the sim next month. He WILL be current by 2011. Calm down a bit. If you look at the MEC minutes over the last year or so you will see that this issue has NOT gone unnoticed, especially with the reps all flying full lines + union work. Look at other MEC's... they buy off a ton of folks and "pick up" some trips to stay current. That sham won't work here. I know you are ****ed, so are 1249 other folks.

How many deadlines are you going to let pass by before you say enough is enough? Seriously, another so called deadline? Where's the power? Where's the leadership? Where's the plan B? How many years have negotiation reports been sent out saying "We've made considerable process, but still have more to accomplish..."??

There are leaders that make you feel good. Then there are leaders that make you feel bad. But honestly, lets look at where the rubber meets the road. Let's look at what has been accomplished.

WHAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED??? (crickets, crickets)

That's what's been accomplished.

You can't call crickets in the same post as an original question. The 2nd is a deadline. Once 5pm rolls around it's either a TA or we are back at the NMB. Picketing permits will be in hand for every hub on the 3rd. If the company wants to play hardball, we will keep them answering to the media and Delta.

It should be out shortly if not late tonight then it will be out in the morning. The MEC has had it's hands full and the update from the MEC chair will be a recap and display the plan going forward. It needed to be out tuesday morning but getting the MEC together while everyone was working was a logistical nightmare.
