Airports and TSA

Hi everyone,
Just a really quick question, what ever happened to that puffer machine that the TSA had before? You know the one, while standing in a phone booth, it shoots some air at you and sniffs for explosives. Is that not effective on non-metallic bombs? Also, what about using that swab machine that they use on bags on a person? Wouldn't that catch a bomb if it was rubbed on a person? Thanks everyone, I'm not really that up to date with all these machines and what they do, maybe someone can shed some light on the subject.

People in Washington owned more stock in Scanners than Puffers.

You can do some research on the internet to satisfy your curiosity, but the questions (or the answers that you are looking for) are too specific for the forum.
Wiki has a nice article on Airport Security that you might want to look at:

Travelers are screened by metal detectors. Explosive detection machines used include X-ray machines and Puffer Machines. Explosive detection machines can also be used for both carry on and checked baggage. These detect volatile compounds given off from explosives using gas chromatography.
