Q400 Headset Plug In
 

Getting ready to purchase a new TSO'd headset for the Q400. I was thinking of purchasing the Bose A20 but didn't know if I should purchase the battery powered twin plug or the aircraft powered 6 pin connector. Does anybody know what Horizon's Q400 have? Also, is this a good choice of headset for the noisy turboprop? I want good noise cancelling. Thanks!

I flew the Q at Lynx and it had the standard 2 pin GA style plugs. I'd imagine all the Qs are the same...you need the battery pack for that headset. I haven't tried the A20 yet, but I have used the Bose X and QC2/UFlyMike in the Q400 and they both worked great. The QC2 had enough noise cancelling for it and the X was a little quieter. The QC2/UFM combo was my favorite, I have the TSO'd version, as it was quiet enough and took up a lot less room than the X. That said, I think the A20 will work very well in that aircraft.

Heard from our company that some bose headsets are incapatible with some Q's

Used to use the Bose X in the Q400 and it worked great.

Use any headset youd like. ANR is not required and a fair amount of folks use telex on the ear headsets.

Its not whisper quiet by any stretch but it really isnt loud either.

The only airline I a aware having their Qs mod to accept plug powered ANR headset is in Europe (Luxair). Not aware what all the Qs US operators have.
My experience is that the noise reduction helps a lot in the Q, even though its really quiet for a turboprop. Standard plugs. I use the Senheisers (airline provided). Good flights.

Horizon's Q4's have the standard 2 plug config for headsets. Horizon does require TSO'd headsets...big "no-no" to get caught on a linecheck with non-TSO'd ones. (I've seen it happen)

I used a standard Telex set for almost 2 years on the Q at QX. The wind nose is higher than than the prop nose (atleast to me).

Are you in a new hire class at QX? If so, shoot me a pm. (I'm a QX'er myself)

Are Bose X not TSO approved? I have both Bose and DC's.

that memo is stupid, its the jacks, they are loose, poor mx diagnosis...if it was the headsets they wouldn't have worked from day one, its been 3 years and just now they are acting up. even used the "water cooler david clarks" jumpseating and they wouldn't work due to a crappy jack connection.


my bose x have worked great the entire time i have been in the q for years.
