Psa

I have a Major Airline Cap friend sending my resume to them for me. He says is a good airline to work for. Any thoughts?

buffalopilot 08-28-2006 10:30 AM

ALso what is your monthly TAKE HOME pay the first year?

Jakob 08-28-2006 10:35 AM

Check out APC for the pay scales.
Here is the link: http://airlinepilotcentral.com/airli...ional/psa.html

I can't say anything to QOL. because I'm not a pilot, only a wannabe... :o

Good luck anyway!

Why is it still called PSA if it's based out of CLT? Naming rights stuff?

Pretty sure its an operating certificate thing. When US Air bought the PSA certificate they were on the west coast but times have changed...

buffalopilot 08-28-2006 11:10 AM

I can see the hourly rate, but i dont know approx how many hours you end up flying per month to get an actualy monthly income. Also, i wanted to know how much/month per diem a pilot makes.

flynavyj 08-28-2006 11:25 AM

its listed directly under that as monthly guarentee and monthly reserve guarentee...looks like 75 and 72 hrs respectively, which works out to 1,575/ month on guarentee @ 75, and $18,900/year.

buffalopilot 08-28-2006 11:35 AM

yeah, but you usually fly more than the guarantee, right?

flynavyj 08-28-2006 11:37 AM

dunno...ask a line pilot ;)

FlyingBobcat 08-28-2006 11:40 AM

I have talked to a pilot there, he is a FO (4th year) looking forward to upgrade soon. He really enjoys the airline if you dont mind the pay (just get yourself a sugar momma). I am hoping to apply at PSA after I graduate from OU in the spring and land a job. I also heard through the grapevine that DAY is the most junior base. Best of luck with PSA!

buffalopilot 08-28-2006 11:47 AM

yeah but pay is similar no matter where you go minus or plus a few dollars

Well when you calculate out that plus or minus a few dollars over 1000 hours a year it makes a bit of a difference. Figure you will probably fly an average of 85-95 hours (once you are a line holder) and multiply the pay rate times that. Figure about another 300-400 hours of per diem and you should have a pretty good idea. But when you are figuring out income, you really shouldn't count per diem.

When you are on reserve, that is up to scheduling. When you hold a line, you can really fly as much or as little as you want. I know some guys who drop their line down to 30-40 hours so they have more time to do things on the side (like real estate) and there are other guys who are getting paid 100-120 hours a month because of deadheads and because they pick up a lot of flying. Its really up to you. Bear in mind, I do not work for PSA, this is just from my own experience in the industry.

Actually, The company is based in DAY but the largest Pilot Base is CLT...Used PSA name back in 1996 to keep the name after USAirways purchased original PSA back in 88/89...JIA (jetstream Int'l) which we were, already had it's own operating certificate. We are still under our JIA three letter identifier with ATC, which is why we think we are called Jetlink all the time (but I have no idea what there 3 letter identifier is)

Good Luck...

Just found out we needed 2 more for class next Monday and the 8 already in there drained the pool so 2 someone's may be in class on Monday after interviews on Thursday! Remember, seniority is everything!!!

PSA chief

How heavily is a recommendation from another airline pilot weighed in the hiring decision

Skyranger777 08-29-2006 03:28 PM

PSA stands for what?

Old days it was Pacific Southwest Airlines, now "PSA" stands for nothing!

At least you guys at PSA aren't called Jetstream Airlines like it was when I first started. I believe it was V-Neil before that. PSA has come along ways since the days of the BA-3100. I believe there are several of my old friends still there after being gone 17 years. Good bunch of folks.

Cheers to all of you.

Yeah, It was Jetstream Int'l Airlines when I was hired 11+ years ago and I flew the J-Ball. A few of the guys you were with here are still here. The top 30 guys were probably here then, PM me if you want to know about anyone in particular!

buffalo,

When hiring picks up it will be everywhere, not just PSA. Apply at descent companies like asa, Wisky, skywest, rah. Things weren't bad here just 6 months ago, in fact they were pretty good for the average regional, and then something happened,(I don't know what), but now all the sudden pilot abuse is the new recreational activity. Unless sitting 60-70 hrs a month on ready reserve(at the airport for 10 hr) is your thing, you should consider other options. When choosing a regional you must consider the following. Where would I want to be stuck for the next 7 years? Things don't go according to plan in this bis most of the time. When I was hired I was told in 2 years I'd be capt. 1 1/2 years later i'm an FO on reserve being abused by scheduling, capts are no exception by the way. Your major airline capt freind is probably giving you the best info to his/her knowledge but the fact is most major pilots are completely out of touch with whats happening at the regionals, and who can blame them. most can't tell the differance between a crj/erj/beech1900 and so on.

PS. i am not just some whinny pilot, i try to find the best in every situation, but honestly under current conditions around here that is tough to do. I hope this helps in your decision, whatever it may be. best of luck

It's called intelligent negotiations... As the contract is up, TK is throwing his good old tactics to divert ALPA from what really should be negotiated in the upcoming contract, as a matter of fact, PSA is almost timing it perfectly to have every new contract negotiated in a recessionary period. Don't forget the current contract is also a "concessionary contract"... Negotiated during the previous downturn.

Reality is PSA has always been profitable as long as their employees are squeezed to death. They always have a good reason to give the 20+ year guy 13 days off a month on a non-commutable line, there is always a good reason to sit between turns for 4 hrs or sit in a hotel until 6 pm in the last day of the trip.

Sometimes you wonder if the Union is helping you or helping the company, then again ALPA udercutting other ALPA carriers... what else is new?

Agreed. The problem with admitting that is that this hell will last as long as the negotiations do, which means years, and that kind of news......
