Ya, move to ORD and your wife will have a real job while you work for a regional. ASA/XJT/Skywest have ORD bases, Eagle as well as others. You can jump to the UK fairly easy from ORD as well to help your mother.

Sounds like your current carrier is stringing you along with the Avro possibility, and if they can hire street CAs before you get a shot then that blows!

I have to agree with Flyby1206. You shouldn't have any problems getting in a regional with no rec.

I would apply to Eagle ...there's going to be massive movement there in the next few years. Most the Captains will be leaving for AA.

Very true Grumble but I'm actually Brit with a JAA licence in addition to my FAA. I was flying for a UK airline until last year when I got laid off. The only reason we would move back to the UK is if we have kids as my wife wants to stop working and I'd be able to command a higher salary over there. That being said, the industry is appalling over there these days with 200 hour wonder kids paying to sit in the right seat, plus the tax is insane!

Never mind then. I was thinking you were from down there with an FAA ticket. I doubt it would even be worth the effort unless you could get on with someone like Virgin or BA.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. For most airlines back home in the UK the move wouldn't be worth it these days. It's quite a long way down the line for our plans anyway, but outside of BA and Virgin most of the UK airlines are barely worth looking at these days. EasyJet and Ryanair only hire 200 hire cadets now who will be willing to pay about $48k for a type rating.

Eagle. Get based in ORD without any problem. And use your bennies to go to the UK.
