Winter Storms and Your Airline

Has every Regional Airline been having Issues with all these storms???

Damaged/Broke Airplanes, running out of hotels for crews, multiple (pointless) deadheads...

Everyone dealing with the same stuff?

undflyboy06 01-27-2011 02:40 PM

Are there specific airports that are coming to mind, or in general? It seems that whenever they see one snowflake at IAD it turns into an instant 2 hour delay.

Flyboy8784 01-27-2011 02:53 PM

Primarily the East Coast and I would say Chicago too....They've been getting slammed pretty hard

Yesterday was my last day at my dump of an airline, after 6 years. I had a great 4 day and on day 4 one leg that got me in at 10 and I was to catch a 11 am flight home. Well on the van ride to the airport on day Scheduling left me a msg that said I was to operate a flight to LGA and back(nice LGA WX yesterday). After getting everything ready for my flight I called Scheduling to inform them that I would be operating my flight back to base and I refused the LGA flight. He said well it's on your schedule and you'll have to talk to a chief pilot. I replied "do what ya gotta do" But I will be catching my flight home. Got to CVG turned my stuff in and caught my flight home. When I turned my ID in at 10am I was the 9 person to do so already yesterday. Checked my schedule when I got home and saw they removed the flight and did nothing about it. The flight went to LGa but the return flight CX, so I would have been JM'd into my resignation. F THEM I'M happy to be gone and never want to see that company again. Sorry for the rambling but OH sucks and so does each and every person in the GO. I've got a long time off now and I'm going to enjoy being gone from OH!!

I've never de-iced before :rolleyes:

What difference does it make? They are all basically the same.

resetjet 01-27-2011 04:47 PM

OH = Comair
GO = Company Headquarters

at 9e we fall apart on a sunny day. Now add some snow and its all over

etflies 01-27-2011 05:19 PM

Personally I was a fan of the 10ft tall snow piles the plows pushed at the end of each alleyway at the A gates in IAD today.

Man I'm really glad I was not there today. Iv got lucky this winter with missing the storms.

To answer the question: Yes... Although we haven't had any broken airplanes yet.

Had 5 out of 6 flights cancel on the first 2 days of this 4 day trip. The whole trip is or was in and out of JFK. Somehow got stuck in DTW and the hotel was trying to make all of us (CA, FO, FA) share 1 hotel room the first night even though we had 3 different confirmation numbers. We were supposed to deadhead out today but the flights we were suppose to work cancelled and they made us move to another, albeit nicer, hotel in DTW (41 hours in DTW thus far). Tomorrow already lost 1 leg and will just be deadheading to JFK to fly to IAD which may or may not get cancelled. And to top it all off it's supposed to snow again in NYC on saturday, the go home day. FML... Lots of beer though... Tempted to just say fak it and get on a plane and go home.

That was pretty amazing... "Where should we pile up all this snow we plowed off the ramp?" "Oh, I know, how about BEHIND THE AIRPLANES!!!!"

Brilliant!

Saw an email where one company was so complacent that multiple crews were stranded at the airport overnight. Talk about poor foresight, planning, and execution. Good thing they aren't trying to run an airline... Oh, I forgot they are. Just doing a terrible job of it.

thank goodness I was not working at IAD when the snow hit. The A gates is always a mess. I could only imagine with the snow

Atreyu 01-30-2011 01:50 PM

It was quite hilarious in IAD the other day. Supposed to be a IAD-STL flight that was delayed for 4 hours because of the huge snow bank. I guess the alley's have to be plowed by the airport because of a contract and Air Wisconsin refused to move it cuz they're not responsible past 10' or some arbitrary number in front of the gates. So the plane just sat there forever!

etflies 01-31-2011 07:46 AM

Nice of them to delay numerous flights over some sort of arbitrary rule although I heard Air Wis had only something like 10 or 15 people show up everybody else called in because they couldn't get to work. What a mess. More to come this week it looks like too, glad I'm off for that one!

Atreyu 01-31-2011 08:58 AM

Supposed to be an Ice Storm at IAD starting tonight around 8pm that carries into snow tomorrow.

However, Wednesday is supposed to be 50 and raining, hopefully melt all this stuff away!

boeingt7 01-31-2011 07:12 PM

If you guys are ever extended into your days off because of bad weather, how does your airline compensate you? money, additional days off in a later bid....etc??

JetPipeOverht 01-31-2011 07:23 PM

Just had a 4 day, my last before a month off with vacation, and it was crediting 24 hours total..long story short 2 hotels, and 5 flights out of 14 operated...Enjoy the rest of the winter here guys and please be safe !

Moonwolf 01-31-2011 07:27 PM
