Congrats, won't be there, hopefully by then I'll be cranking out some 1900 time at Commutair, I have a friend that is promised an interview with Colgan in NOV, why did you decide to leave if you care to share. He is looking for some info about the company.

73driver 09-02-2006 04:16 PM

Leaving Colgan and xjt abuse?

Well to be honest Colgan really wasn't bad at all the only advice I can give anybody going to Colgan is stay far far away from a mx base. I was based in ALB and it was absolute misery always flying broken airplanes, always getting screwed on ur last day ending up flying extra legs or flying on your day off, and did i mention flying broken airplanes? I must say the people at Colgan both the pilot group and crew scheduling and the Colgan's themselves have treated me very well and I did enjoy my time there, the SAAB is awesome by the way. ..................... To the fella who posted above about xjt and reserve and abuse your about the only one that I have heard complain at xjt I have 10 good friends over there that love it and its better than doing 8 legs a day to the same airport all day and everyday, with no overnights and no per diem. xjt= better pay better QOL, better destinations, avg airplane is 4.6 yrs old I can go on and on, and to everybody that feels "upgrade time at colgan is quicker PIC is so important", all I have to say to that is that there are many and I mean many CA's with thousands of PIC turbine at COlgan and they can't get an interview, same goes with the other thoussands of qualified RJ captains out there so 1,000PIC is not the gaurenteed interview like the 100multi is for CFI's

I just got off reserve and I can't say that I was ever abused... Did have to do some trips I wouldn't have chosen if I had a choice but thats the gig. Were you one of those pricks whos lays into the scheduler whenever they called you with something? The schedulers are just doing their job but remember: they keep notes on who is cool and who is not and guess who gets the sh!t flung at them when the sh!t flinging starts:eek: You just gotta know how to work the system. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Hold Off On The Excitement

This airline will be seen in the "Airliner Cemetary"

Instead of everyone asking "WHAT SHOULD I DO" and "WHICH AIRLINE SHOULD I PICK," my suggestion is dig deep into their recent financial records, look at what they have to say about current conditions including labor and contractual flying agreements, as well as the financials, THEN CHOOSE.

Looking at ALL the regionals, I would only go to work for three (3). Looking at the nationals and majors, and cargo. I would pick only four (4), with (1 of those 4) being iffy.

Since you don't work for an airline, what possible inside could you offer? ExpressJet is an awesome company, and the management here actually cares about us. Contract and QOL is second to none including some majors, and as far as the mystery of the 69, well, there will be alot of people surprised when it's all said and done.

Congratulations SAAB, I'm sure I'll bump into you in the crew room at one point or another.

Calm down SAAB:P There have been rumblings of that for a long time. Just like there have rumblings of an LAX base for American Eagle, flying to Mexico for Southwest, ExpressJet Europe, etc etc. The 69 aircraft thing has done nothing but oil the rumor mill. Everyone you fly with has heard something or knows someone who knows something. Always good for conversation:P Personally, Ill believe it when I see it come out on company letterhead but its still fun to stir the pot:D

CL65driver 09-08-2006 07:00 AM

Freezingflyboy, what is Expressjet Europe anyways? I saw it mentioned on their website, but I can't find any other info on it.

JoeyMeatballs 09-08-2006 08:08 AM

very good points

Yeah kinda silly to speculate, I mean I was at Colgan and all the captains I flew with have been hearing SAAB 2000 for about 5 years now so I shoulda knew better, can't wait to start training though, F**^%$ ERJ out EWR, and actaully getting paid a decent amount for it (after 1st pay anyway) Overnights, APU's, FMS's, GPS's and I get to go to more places then PIT. LGA. IAD :)

Airplanes w/ no MEL's. record for me was 9 ;)

A proposed European regional that would operate on a fee-for-departure basis for a (or many) European carriers. Don't know any details. May be dead in the water for all I know. Haven't heard any rumors for a while which is usually a bad sign:D

Hey Ellen,
Can you give us your top four Majors/cargo/nationals and even that iffy one. Also what are the top 3 regionals that are so great. Here is something to think about, 2 years ago Comair was the big regional to work for ( best paid ) look at where they are now. ExpressJet could be in the same boat, you never know with regionals, thats why I'm getting my time and get out. That said, Express has been a great company to work for. I bet your not even a pilot, you might be a big CFI, or have a CFII ooooooo, or maybe a MEI oooooooo. But hopefully your a MILF.

CL65driver 09-12-2006 08:39 AM

lol... you said MILF :p :D

that's a pretty sad statement if you actually think that mid 30's is a decent amount.

whodis 09-14-2006 06:44 AM

If you had stayed at Colgan wouldn't you have upgraded in less than a year, have been able to bid into a non-mx base, and been paid in the mid 40s? But now you get JET SIC time. That's going to get you far. Smooth move, ex-lax.

think big picture, you tool...how the hell is jet sic time useless??? all that you are flying is an overpowerd cessna sled...I think you're just bitter that you made the mistake of going to colgan and now you're stuck there!

Sennaha 09-14-2006 08:26 AM

I'm sure SAAB will be much happier flying jet equipment at XJT in the right seat. XJT is a good company and the current route structure enables you to be in a much larger geographical area. Once he starts flying the jet at XJT, I would think that he will never have a desire to fly a bug smasher again.

Unless specifically for bug smashing activites on his days off.. :D (not for compensation, of course)

whodis 09-15-2006 04:36 AM

my bad

You guys are right. RJs are totally cool. And by the time he upgrades, Southwest will probably have run out of acceptable candidates with PIC time, and have started taking guys with 3000 jet sic. I totally didn't look at the big picture. I'm such a loser, I'm going to go cry into the sic column in my logbook, since that doesn't get used anymore.
