Junior Pinnacle guys

just wondering how long new guys have been sitting reserve in DTW. Also has anyone heard hiring projections just from the Pinnacle side?

Probably about 15 minutes. For some time now every vacancy that comes out sends butt loads of FOs to DTW.

higney85 03-10-2011 09:54 AM

DTW is becoming ATL of the north. With hiring you can expect it to not be too long, but no guarantees on a timeline. Just don't plan on going to any other base other than DTW or JFK for a while.

spank 03-10-2011 09:55 AM

Keep in mind with SLI there will be pilots from all 3 groups moving around looking for better QOL & schedules. Shouldn't slow things down too much as DTW seems to stay pretty junior, but I'm sure there will be atleast a few senior guys bidding into positions at all domiciles. That may slow the process some down for the new hires. A recent list of scheduled class dates showed classes of 10-14 every two weeks until the end of the year. Take that with a grain of salt, I've heard more than once, "hire til you furlough".

Fly782 03-10-2011 10:02 AM

Would these new hires get bumped down to the tprops after the SLI? assuming they will be junior equipment... Or would some of the jet bases be junior enough? Im interviewing at Colgan soon so it kind applies there as well.

spank 03-10-2011 10:26 AM

Fly...Nobody will be bumped as a result of SLI.

HOWEVER, any subsequent realignments or displacements may mean that the junior guys will be getting pushed around some.

The guys that are on property and want to change equipment or move to another domicile will bid it in post SLI vacancies. That means the new hires that come in initially after SLI will get whatever everyone else does not want. With the equipment change comes a seat lock which can play against them in the end when upgrades come along.

I wouldn't call the Q a "bump down" by anymeans

If you're interviewing at Colgan/Mesaba, I would hazard a guess you'll either wind up in LGA on the Saab or EWR on the Q400. We won't know until the final SLI award comes out if there will be fences or what those fences will be, so your guess is as good as mine as far as bidding to a jet. Personally, I'd stick with whatever gives you the best QoL rather than basing it on flying a jet or a tprop. Looking at the final on the latest vacancy, I'd say reserve in DTW is gonna be short. Reserve in JFK is gonna be not that much longer. I'm getting displaced to JFK CA next month, and I'm going to be coming in almost half way up the list on the CAPTAIN side....

quinny89 03-10-2011 10:54 AM

Any chance of a new hire getting DTW? on the Q or Saab.

On the Q400 there is zero chance.

That is what i am planning on, I am just curious thats all. I have no problem with flying anything.

and sorry about the bump comment. I agree in no way is the Q a bump or the saab for some people, just did not think through my wording.

Saab? DTW would just be an easy base for me.

spank 03-10-2011 11:33 AM

Quinny, it's hard to say as DTW is an XJ saab base at the moment. The saabs haven't exactly been a pillar of strength for Mesaba, and it's doubtful that the FOs in DTW left on the saab will beat to other equipment because they will most likely want to avoid the seat lock that would go along with that. Sounds like your best shot at DTW is via Pinnacle...but who knows how that will hold up post SLI. It's going to be a crap shoot for a bit. There are also rumors flying about a potential ORD Q400 base, but again, just a rumor and who knows how senior/junior it would go.

Side note: Are you out of Grand Ledge's unit? Had a chance back in the day to take a run at an CWO spot there, turned it down unfortunately (fortunately?).

Was in Columbus, OH, with the guard, and Benning when active. It's unfortunate, cause it's a BLAST! :)

Min hiring this year is 250 more

After looking at the latest vacancy and bid pack, we're gonna need a lot more than that just for the 9E stuff.....

There is no chance of getting a t-prop out of DTW just the RJ-200 from my understanding

What is your DOH (first day of class)? And where are you being bumped from?

marlonmoneda1 03-21-2011 07:39 AM

I think its hilarious people looking around at regionals based on time on reserve. You should pick the company based on company culture, contract, and growth, not time on reserve. They told me when i got hired that id be holding a line after a month...Ive been at mesaba for 3.5 years on the crj 200, and ive been on reserve 80 percent of that time and 11 days off for 90 percent of that time. If you want to work at a regional airline with future growth opportunity and a decent contract, come to pinnacle/colgan/mesaba. I can guarantee youll be on reserve much longer that you ever wanted.

1wrangler 03-21-2011 03:35 PM

What times are people currently getting hired with at Pinnacle?

DL31082 03-21-2011 10:03 PM

The 2/28 class averages about 1700hrs total time. The march 14th class is pretty close to the same without the 2 WMU guys.

They will probably hire 300 and plan on a 20% washout rate.

???? What is so funny about someone involuntarily being displaced?

PinkSlip 03-26-2011 11:35 AM

It's just funny that these junior guys think they are entitled to the senior pilot base. It's obvious what he wrote is flamebait. Come on, it's just rediculous that these junior guys expect so much. ( I can read between the lines and see the humor). But this is just like the signing bonus. Some pilots work here a couple years and expect a fortune.

But in all honesty it can take over a decade to obtain what we all want and only some of us deserve.

Fortune's are created by discpline and perfection. Seniority is created by time.

He's a disgruntled FO that got busted on a checkride and thinks he's hilarious.

He actually has had some pretty funny posts lately. It's not easy to nail down the mindset of someone you hate like that. He's no Stephen Colbert, but he's pretty spot on.

Must be a captain then, because there are a lot of FO's in MEM with later hire dates that are no where near getting displaced.
