CFI's out there?
Just curious how many CFI's are still out there looking for regional jobs? My current airline is having trouble filling classes because they claim a lack of qualified applicants and I am just curious how many guys are out there instructing, and or furloughed? I think current minimums are 1500/300, or right around that.

Their multiengine minimum is too high. A new pilot who can't afford to buy 300 hours of multi time is going to have to either get it flying Part 135, or by teaching in a twin. The Part 135 job is going to pay as well as the airline job so that pilot does not feel a great need to quit for the airlines. The instructing job would take 2-3 years to get to 300 hours of dual-given so that pilot is either busy building multiengine time or more than likely can't find a job teaching in a twin in the first place.

I'm out here. I'm am ATP & CFI/CFII/MEI. I have over 2000 total and over 300 multi. Just starting to look for a regional job. Waiting on an interview invite from my preferred regional. There is another CFI at my school with similar total time but very little multi. The other instructors at my school are lifers or very low time. I know they will have a problem getting someone to teach multi when I go though. Most insurance companies want 100 multi to underwrite. It will get interesting...

I have a current CFI, MEI and II and 12,000 hours, but am not willing to work at the wages they are willing to pay. As much as I miss flying, I will continue to work in other ventures until recalled. I don't think there is a shortage of qualified pilots, I think there is a shortgae of qualified pilots willing to work for what they are paying.

I'm a current CFI/II/MEI. Don't meat those mins and not sure I'd apply if I did. I instruct at a fantastic academy with amazing opportunities to bypass airlines and go straight to the corporate world.

I second this...in the same boat pretty much. $hitty regionals;) |
I am out there still, 1100TT, 250ME, CFI,MEI,CFII....Its hard to get called for anything if you dont know anyone at a place that your willing to go to.

no multi market in dallas! Bunch of rich guys buying SR-22's
|
I'm not saying 300 multi is to much, but what I do know is building 300 multi is very very difficult. I applied to and have been offered a march 28 class at eagle, I would have jumped at applying to a place like express jet, but I'm stuck at 110 multi. I am a current cfi, II, and MEI

If they ask for 300ME, they may not consider themselves an entry level airline. Some regionals are hiring people with less than that in TOTAL time.
They may want pilots with some experience already in turbine aircraft.... Part 135 drivers, Furloughed from other regionals (or jumpers if the price is right), etc. Nothing wrong to have higher standards until you can't staff your airline. Then you either raise pay or lower standards. |

Don't buy into that too much. I have worked for 3 different airlines and I never knew anyone there before I applied. Got every job I interviewed for.
Here is the thing...I have the required or in most cases exceeded many of the regionals requirements that I have applied to, but then you hear about places like Pinnacle hiring people with 300 hrs ??? It's kinda discouraging to say the least. |

I hear you on that one. The only guys coming in with 300 hours are the WMU guys so far. There are only two that I know of at the moment and they are in the 3/14 class. The rest of that class averages around 1500TT at least. The 2/28 class averages right around 1500, with the lowest time being just over a 1000. I have a few friends that want to get on but can't seem to get called back. Hopefully they will keep interviewing guys off the street along with the WMU guys. Good luck. |
I'm at 2000+ TT, 360 ME, ATP and a MAS. I got a call from my target airline today, so I may not be looking for a job in 2 weeks. :)

Been instructing for 3+ years and at close to 2500 TT, but just under 50 multi. Having a heck of a time building multi, as I can't go further into debt paying for it. Trying to beg, borrow, steal has only taken me so far.
Frustrating as the CFI's that left for the regionals before I started got hired on with almost non-existent multi time. Also VERY frustrating to see some regionals hiring guys just out of school with barely 300 hrs. Depressing to read all the negative comments in these forums about CFI time being next to worthless. I definitely feel that I am a much stronger pilot today after all of the varied situations/weather I've been through than at 300 hrs. So yeah, the multi time req.s need to come down before these so called half-filled classes get more new meat. |

Apply at Great Lakes. You meet their minimums. You'll get to build your ME time and then you can move on to a better regional after a few months if you don't like it there. Better than waiting around wishing minimums get lowered in my opinion.

Skyhigh I have never read a single word here that you've said that is worth reading or even relevant. You consider yourself above the fray, yet continue to aggravate those who wish to actually pursue a career in aviation. You'd be better off, and so would the rest of us, if you'd just go do your own thing. Go away. |
