Atlantic Southeast Airlines Life
Can someone elaborate on the life at ASA? How is reserve? Where are junior domiciles? Future expansion?
|
Reserve is what it is, no different from anywhere else. Jr. Domicile at this point is DTW FO and IAD CA.....future expansion is at the whim of Delta and United...so we shall see...any more pointed questions and i'll be glad to help !

Any idea how long it would take a new hire FO to get based at IAD?

Hiring #'s
Any info on how many pilots ASA is planning to hire per month and for how many months they plan to hire? ( for example, 200 pilots this year at 15 per month)

Junior domiciles. Right now new-hires are going to all three (ATL/IAD/DTW). ATL will always be the senior base, but DTW/IAD can be considered the junior bases. Future expansion is anyone's guess. We can't even cover and complete the flying we have right now. Short staffed and lot's of maintenance issues.

Reserve sucks, doesn't matter where you're based, what you fly or whichever way you spin it. Living in base will make it a little more tolerable.

They might still be interviewing, but last I heard there are no further new-hire classes scheduled on the ASA side as of now. I believe around 60 people have been hired so far this year. Life is going to suck on reserve, but hopefully ALPA will try to make it better in the next contract. Reserves may work 6 days a week at one time, and not get called in for several weeks straight when we're overstaffed (which we haven't been for at least a year). |
Reserve is not the choicest assignment in the airline, to say the least. But that being said, its completely manageable. You will get a guaranteed 11 days off a month, and if youre flexible on your reserve period, it doesn't take alot of seniority to hold a couple of weekend days off.
Plan on being used most days on call, especially now as we are short staffed. As for hiring, they don't seem to be a big fan of large number announcements, but we have had a steady flow of classes since september. Given our current shortage, losing crews to dtw, and the rest rule changes, I would expect hiring to continue. Or, Delta could park all of our 50s tomorrow, and there will be 1000 more pilots on the street. Isn't aviation fun! |

yeah. That's not going to happen. It's not a secret to anyone that's not the priority of the union. |
