ASA/XJT Interview
#41
Because even in this industry, common sense easily flies right out the window and politics reigns. I interviewed with eagle last year for about 8 solid hours one day. Started with 7 applicants. By the end of a long day of sims, evals, tests, interviews, I was the last one left. 3 were offered positions including me. The entire interview team approached me, shook my hand and gleamed with excitement for me to accept the job. I accepted and was told I could expect a confirmation phone call or email soon. 3 weeks later I received certified mail saying, " we apologize but you have not successfully completed the pilot selection process". Ok, what? It was only until an old friend, 12-year 121 veteran told me about the "captain's review board" and the willy-nilly method of app selection used for final selection. Its equal to eeny-meeny miney-mo totally random selection.

Or it could be the formatting of a resume. A girl I know (non-aviation) had troubles getting callbacks for a job she was well qualified for. She took her resume to a specialist who reworked it and allowed the computer to scan and hit the highlights. Remember, these days it isn't a human looking at these apps, its a computer.
After she did that she got four calls in a week.

It has been a week for me and I haven't heard anything at all - good or bad. When I interviewed back in November I think I got the "No Thanks" after about three days.
I am assuming it's "No Thanks" again, but the recruiter left me with the impression that I had a fairly good chance this time around (and he and another recruiter weren't exactly sure why I wasn't selected last time). Outside of a brief overview of the electrical system of my current a/c, no tech questions and we just spent the time talking about our respective airlines and the industry. No sim eval since I'm current (or so they said...hmmm...). Seems odd to me, but I guess it only takes one person behind the scenes to veto you. I do have a checkride failure but that didn't seem to bother anyone when it was discussed. Worth a quick email to check in?

I'm current too. Last flight was a week ago, but they still put everyone in the sim. We were told if we did not make it to the sim stage then we could consider our application to be unsuccessful. Four out of five of us made it to the sim. My sim partner and I were told we were successful straight after the sim and were told to expect a call in the next 24 hours.

You fly a JS31? I ask because his exact words were that if you were current in the DHC8 or larger you didn't need to do the sim eval. While that's a hell of a co-inky-dink as that is exactly what I fly, I'd be pretty surprised if they just made that up to send me home: "What's he on? The Dash? Just tell 'im....tell 'im...how 'bout this: if he's current on the Dash or larger he doesn't need to do the sim. And hey, we can't offer him the job if he doesn't do the sim.....whew, problem solved....who's hungry?"

The sim ride MAY be in a 737-200 FTD. It's VERY docile but sprightly. PAY ATTENTION to the power settings and pitch attitudes when they brief the group, it will make or break you. If you haven't done any actual IFR in a while I highly recommend spending about 5-10 hours in a sim before the interview. The sim is NOT a formality.
If you pass everything you'll get either a call (which is good)or a letter (which is bad.). From what I understand from the guys I interviewed with, they are putting people in to pools for XJT at the moment.
Whoever is in the 5/23 class. I'll see you there. I'm bringing my car, so if you need to go to wal-mart or whatever I'll be more than happy to take you there...for a reasonable fee
