Default Skywest junior pilot bases 2011

I've been offered a job over at Skywest in the CRJ, just wondering if anyone has a heads up on what bases people are getting?

Are any bases full enough that you would never get them within a year?

Can you trade bases without a full system bid and how does it work?

Last question: once you get a base, can you be pushed out if other people try to move in?

Thanks for any (meaningful) responses!

Extra credit: an estimate of how many guys they're hiring this year starting with May?

Here are some questions for you:

Did you go to the Open House?
When did you interview?
What is your flight experience?
What are your flight times?
Can you speak about to others that interviewed with you.?

I don't think it would be particularly helpful, I'm coming from another regional so I have an ATP, jet time, and the interview was easy for me. I don't think that's the norm from what I've read, and I studied a lot before attending but I still don't really believe it would be helpful to anyone. Read the gouges you can find, that will help more than My comments.

I will say I think they're looking for good people, not good pilots. If you're kind of a d-bag (and you know who you are!) don't apply lol

A friend of mine who's on IOE currently (went thru ground back in March) was awarded MSP. He bid for ORD.

The last class all the new hires were awarded IAH. The most junior bases are MSP/IAH.

Bid what you want, if you get it, you get it. They award base transfers monthly (usually) and usually run awards before new hire awards.

You can bid and change bases monthly if there is movement. If you turn down a bid transfer you will get a 6 month lock in base. Still you can pick up flying in any base.

Once you are awarded a base, you can not get pushed out of the base.

We were told in my transition class in march that they were estimated around 700, and approved to have 60-70 a class (CRJ) with classes running every month through the end of the year.

Chicago has been shrinking so I would expect new hires to go to msp or IAH.

Thanks for the great infofrom everyone. I'm specifically hoping for SLC, any ideas of the chance? Is it usually possible to move around after a few months in (esp with the hiring) or do bases tend to stay hard to get?

Thanks again!

Plan a long time for SLC, most junior Fo has 3+ years of seniority. There are at least 130 people ahead of you with their transfers in. IAH or MSP most likely will be junior for a while.

I would say SLC by the end of summer.. Most Senior FO's that are upgrading are from SLC.. Thus the need to back fill there SLC slots... Just don's wish for PDX or SEA those are out of reach for a long time. Good luck..

Keep in mind, the last time they hired was about three years ago. SLC is not junior but it is the largest base right now. If you get the CRJ you will not get it right away but it probably won't be a long wait (less than a year would be my guess). If you take the prop it's hit or miss. I think the last few classes have all gone to FAT initially but some have gotten SLC, SBP, PSP, and LAX awarded before they were done with training.
