The Number of Pilots Leaving Regionals

Does anyone have any idea as to the number of pilots leaving their airline is each month versus the number of total pilots on their seniority list? It seems to be picking up rapidly, but I can't get any actual numbers.

Averaging maybe 1-2/month with a list of roughly 150. Mostly junior FO's moving laterally, very few CA's are leaving for greener pastures. Not much movement at all.

CRJDriver 05-22-2011 04:02 PM

I've moved up about 25 numbers in the past 6 months. 1700+ pilots total.

I seem to be moving down month by month.

Comair is losing an average of 20+ per month. That's includes the early outs. Many are mid-list FOs, downgraded captains, or junior captains. We also lost about 40-50 very junior FOs. Personally, I'm up around 120-130 numbers since the January SNL

Eagle is seeing a LOT of movement. With more flowthrough pilots leaving this fall it will continue. Then comes the 800+ new hire slots at AA. Lots of Eagle new hires are holding hard lines within a couple months.

I moved up about 100 numbers so far this year a RAH alone, almost 300 since I was first furloughed. Not too worried about reserve anymore for the time being.

Seriously, where do you find these crazy pictures?

ASA is more-or-less stagnant, very small numbers of pilots leaving and nowhere near enough hiring/upgrading to mitigate the staffing loss.

bernouli 05-23-2011 08:30 AM

there's been some movement at GoJet also. some leaving for greener pastures (SWA, airtran, ANA, Ryan Air), others getting fired

9E is around 8-10 month with a lot of guys going southwest and Fedex

Oh, and I moved up 45 numbers from last month at XJT.

I'm keeping my resume up-to-date. Looking to get back into charter/corporate flying again. I'm just waiting for the right company to call...

What is it with GoJet

Why do so many people get fired from GoJet? I hear the management team is the worst with serious power issues. Stay away or get fired and have your carrier ruined.

Yeah I gotta say that I was pretty surprised to see all of the movement at each company. Had to look at the date of the thread twice. Seems like at ASA, when someone leaves EVERYONE knows about it. I remember last year when someone took an early retirement. Just one guy, and it was the talk of the crew lounge for weeks.

We are hiring more than leave. I know that. I have moved down 22 numbers since last summer. If anything, more people seem to be coming back from military/med leave.

It might have something do with Comair getting ready to furlough 3/4s of their pilots. Ya think?

I know a number of Captains who have been fired. Pretty much for dumb stuff too. It's cheaper for the airline to fire senior captains than to keep them. I agree, why jeopardize your career?

AtlCSIP 05-29-2011 06:06 PM

I have moved down over 30 since October. If fuel hadn't gone up so much, I think the movement would continue due to Delta, etc... hiring. We were told 6 months ago that 7 or 8 per month moving on is about average for the recent past.
