Life at Chatauqua/ Republic Air
Got offered a slot for Chatauqua. Not sure if I want to take it or not. What kind of lifestlye or QOL can I expect from Chatauqua/ Republic?
Are pilots happy or is it just a place to hang until the jobs at other places open up? How do they treat crews? Honesty appreciated good, bad, indifferent. Thanks |
You fly a beechjet now and you want to go to republic? To sit right seat in an embaer? Can I ask why? You'll make less and you'll be abused more. I don't know, maybe the grass is always greener....

What are you expecting. Probably better than shoveling crap but not as good as some of the better regionals. Come in with really low expectations and you'll be alright. I'd take the job and quit during training if you find anything else...

Can Colgan and Southwest even be compared? Haha!
I work for Colgan and would give my left nut for SWA. But the two are in entirely different leagues. For the OP - just about any regional will have its drawbacks. You should consider bases, differences in pay, res time, QOL, etc. I believe Republic Holdings has orders for several more 190s and C-series... But I don't know the timeline or how transferring between certificates works. I have a few buddies that work there and, other than the pay, they don't complain a whole lot. |
Definitely look at all the regionals out there and figure out where you want to live or be based. Factor in commuting if you want to live out of domicile. While you didn't post it, I would imagine that you have the time to qualify for most regionals. This is one of those times in the industry were you can shop around a bit and try to find a place that best suits you, instead of being forced to take whatever job you can get.

I must say that RAH isn't what it once was, A LOT OF UNCERTAINTY. Take it with a grain of salt but from someone that lives the CHQ reality day in and day out, all you can do here is hope that maybe, just maybe things will get better eventually but for now look elsewhere...

Chatauqua; pronounced- (Shi*coc-ah) It's an old Iroquois name for "man who rides another man's horse" :D

That was funny the first fifty times I read it...

CHQ class means you get to come join the party in MKE. Good news is the base is super junior, I wouldn't expect to sit reserve terribly long with any sort of movement. CHQ means 12 days off until you get super senior. Facts are we fly short segments and the trips suffer. The trips also suffer because Crew Planning will waste your time with long hotel visits and airport appreciation periods. With that said, I fully expect a new contract is coming soon, the puzzle palace is losing leverage over us by the day. CHQ/S5 has had the most movement for FO's. Since there's no difference in pay the first goal should be to get your butt off reserve. Reserve sucks no matter what sewer (regional) you chose to go to first. Get into class ASAP. The IMSL comes into play in a month and I imagine that will halt hiring for a a little bit as the company tried to lure back Lynx and Midwest guys.
