I realize this move is risky, since the spin off of Eagle could potentially mean less flying and furloughed pilots. However, I suspect that any drastic changes at Eagle are at least 2 years away, and would not result in a 2yr FO being furloughed.

I'm 26, single, and can easily move to wherever I'm based. Eagle's bases are much more appealing to me than XJT's. By leaving XJT, I would be signing up for another year of 1st year pay and giving up over 250 numbers below me. However, I would gain access to better bases, the potential for a much faster upgrade, and an eventual spot at AA.

ASA/XJT's upgrade time is over 5 years right now and Delta is constantly threatening to pull 50 seat RJ flying. Also, I suspect any new equipment will go to Skywest, the golden child.

In considering the above, I'm having a tough time deciding what to do. I obviously won't have a real decision to make until the interview next month, but I want to get my facts straight before that time comes. What do you all think? Would I be crazy to leave XJT or crazy not to? Anyone have a crystal ball I can borrow?

I won't recommend switching to eagle, your movement should be up, not laterally. A lot of people that where on eagle went to Comair. Then got furlough and are starting again in eagle.

Loosing a year, well you still have time to make decisions.

I'm in eagle and I like it, but right now I have about 350 guys below me almost a year after I got hired. If we start furloughing pilots it will take some time to get me.

Dude....don't do it! It could be your biggest mistake! Don't come over here just becuase of the AA flow. You will have more and BETTER opportunities within the next few years. Stay where you are and build your time. DO NOT COME OVER TO EAGLE FROM ANOTHER REGIONAL!!!!

At the current rate of 32/month, that should put you around 3 years. Probably more like 48 upgrades a month next year, maybe more as age 65 hits. You could very well be looking at closer to 2 yr upgrade. Do the math.

There are two things to know about the regional airline industry:

1) Past results do not guarantee future performance. Upgrade times are meaningless to a newhire, they apply to someone hired 3..4..5..etc years ago. Not you. I'd only pay attention to it if there is something out of the ordinary going on (ie: its going backwards).

2) Jumping from one regional to another only prolongs your time at the regionals. No one knows the future well enough to pick tomorrow's winners and losers. The only time it makes sense to change is if you're employed at an obviously sinking ship.

Yes it is my opinion AA is crap but id like for you to name one good reason to fly there. Also the K!ng **** comment is referring to the fact they are a regional trying to make it sound like they are a better place than any other regional, hence the comment. Too slow to figure that out I presume. AE will end up in the same boat as Comair, nothing is pointing to them being a success story.

Also have any of you seen their latest recruitment email?

I can give one reason, they are the only major left that the guys currently there will have a real pension...as of now at least

True but at the rate they are going with making a profit, their bankruptcy thats on the horizon will wipe that out soon enough. And I know not all NWA pilots lost theirs completely, key word completely.

Just curious where you getting the 48/month upgrades. Right now we are only upgrading 16-30 per month and that supposedly is running at full steam. Upgrade is now at 5 years 6months and will increase within the next few months. For a new guy like the OP, going to Eagle would be a smart move.

Chill.

I don't know why you have a personal vendetta against AA or AE. If you aren't there or have nothing to do with them, why do you get your blood pressure up over it? If something has happened in the past, get over it.

My original post was a joke because you just came out maiming AA and AE and spouting off a bunch of personal opinions as to why the op shouldn't switch.....

+1 and again I really wish the mods could add a like button to this website or make it like fatwallet where you can give green or red to posts

Most jr awarded captain @ Eagle is just shy of 4 years 4 months. Not sure where you are seeing 5 years 6 months?
