It is coming from an ex Mesa pilot...me.

So dont ask me if I work for Mesa

pretty sure you're being sarcastic, but I always get a kick out of people saying US will buy mesa. There is no need for that when they can just dump them, at the end of contracts, like they just did. It was the same when I wad at comair. My two favorite there werejetblue was buying us because they needed pilots, fast for there rapid growth. And Branson was going to buy OH, cause he needed the certificate, and was going to use the pilots to start a new company, yep virgin really needed the OH cert.

He may actually be telling the truth, sort of. Mesa's US flying was originally granted as real sweat-heart deal with cactus back when cactus was in BK and mesa loaned them money. The rich terms of that deal financed OJ's shenanigans for many years. So I suspect that SKW did not get as a good a deal as the original mesa deal.

But SKW would not sign up to operate at a loss either, we are nowhere near that point. Also SKW has a tremendous economy of scale advantage over mesa. 6 Dashes? That's a lot of overhead (Mx, training) for a tiny income stream.

This sucks. They didn't even put out a bid or offer to us at PSA or Piedmont. They should have wholly owneds do it instead of more outsourcing.

Utah,

Great. Yippy skippy. So you're pulling them out of the desert to put them under any code that will take them to offset the loss of parking 'em there.

My source, it's common knowledge to the ones who did the negotiating and the due diligence for the deal. This isn't flame throwing, it's just the facts.

So what you're saying is you have no source.

I bet he bid higher than normal in order to get the pilot group and ALPA to cave on concessions that they don't need. If Mesa is suppose to be the lowest cost operator, then why was Mesa not able to compete with the Skywest bid even to operate them at a loss that would be equal to or lower than Skywest?..

There are many reasons but the two that standout the most are Economics of Scale and JO himself.

Very true...

Economies of scale is the simple answer.

This is just like the local mom and pop store trying to compete with Wal Mart. Sure they might have low costs but there is no way they can gain the cost savings of being big that Wal Mart can.
