SkyWest to fly for U.S. Airways
#52
Like Rick said, we probably have well over 800 MAG pilots here and every new hire class adds to that number by at least a few. I’d go as far as to say that we’ve hire more MAG pilots over the last 4 years than from any other single carrier.

What do you suggest the pilots that work for a good airline that treats them well do in this situation? An airline that operates better, pays better, treats employees better has succeeded. Sounds like you're ignorant to the reality here.

I'm speaking from a regional standpoint. Mesa' s mismanagement has screwed them not anybody else. While I agree with other posts and economies of scale that skywest has that other regionals don't, I'm not a big fan of operating even or at a loss. I get it, if the planes aren't flying they are stuck with leases to pay. I like the free market but this is taking it to an extreme. This is the bar I am referring to. How can air Wisconsin PSA or anybody else compete? The majors love this! How would it be if you hailed a cab downtown and one company gave you a ride and instead of charging you the going rate of $20, they gave you $5. No brainer right? I know it's just business and I'm not taking it personally I'm just saying I don't like the trend. Do I work for skyw, no. Do I wish I did, probably. That's the regionals for ya.

Look at the SKYW financials, they are sitting on hundreds of millions of dollars in cash even after buying two other regionals: they didn't get that way by operating aircraft at a loss. So take the financial criticism with a grain of salt coming as is does from the guy who just financially ran his own airline into the ground.
I think his memo amounts to "Blame the competition, blame our employees, but for god's sake no one should blame me."

What worries me is that the financials are becoming more marginal. I wonder how long SkyWest can keep generating a profit? It seems our D0, A14 and completion numbers are all over the board. The ASA and XJet side has some financial risk if they don't get their stuff in order. I hear people say that SkyWest is "Mesafying" every year i.e. getting more and more like Mesa.

Normally I'm a fan of your posts, I'm sorry to see you suspend your generally intelligent and thoughtful demeanor to indulge in a baseless mud-slinging contest.

It was supposed to be funny. Did not intend to sling mud, I have just always felt that despite the ballyhoo SKW pay is not that much better than YV. Certainly not better enough to brag about.
