Commuting on AirTran - Listing number?

I posted in the commuting section a few days ago but there has been no response. Apologies to the moderators but I'd like to ask here too as there seems to be not so much exposure of the commuting sub-section.

Is there a number where non-revs can call to list as jumpseaters in advance of a flight on AirTran? The gate agents seem to prefer a listed person as opposed to a non-listed one and I'd like to play that game if I could.

Thanks in advance!

You can list at the ticket counter or in ATL at the service center. I don't believe there's a number to list ahead of time. They are great to commute on!

Having jumpseated rather extensively the past several months, I've only found two airlines where you can actually call a phone number and list as a jumpseater - FedEx (where it's required) and JetBlue. UPS too I think, but I haven't flown on them yet. I've heard AA sometimes requires it as well.

Other than that, is there anybody else where you can actually list as a jumpseater?

I've never used it but I think it's 800.247.8726.

This is the correct number. The loads shown online by seats being open can be way off, (try to "reserve/buy" a ticket, but don't actually buy it to see open seats) because not everyone has checked in yet, but Airtran people are nice to help you out when you get to the airport.

Enjoy

AA pretty much requires it, unless you want to start your commute with being yelled at by the gate agent. (And perhaps left behind because they "don't have time" to list you, or "don't know how to create a listing")

I was told by AT people at the gate to not use the number to list because they may try to charge you a fee??

Every time I've called to list on Southwest, they tell me that they can't list me as a jumpseater, just as standby for the flight.

The people at the service counters have always checked me in for the jumpseat though once I got there.

Yes. The vast majority of airlines DO NOT have a way for offline jumpseaters to list for the flight via phone number. Most of the time the ONLY option is to list at the gate. The only exceptions are FedEx, UPS, JetBlue, and AA. I have seen other posts here that list phone numbers for US Air, AirTran, etc. Just FYI, these are usually for listing yourself as a standby, which is incorrect and actually causes more headaches for the gate agent. If you are not absolutely positive that you being listed as a jumpseater via some phone number, it's better to do it at the gate.

Perhaps we can start a little list here? Does anybody else know who accepts listings via phone besides the four I listed above?
