Question for Eagle Commuters
 

Looking for input from current Eagle commuters...I know there are lots of variables involved (seat availability, weather, time of year, etc.), but as a general rule of thumb, how hard is it to commute on non-AA/AE flights?

I'll be picking my domicile soon, and if I have a choice, I'm trying to decide on ORD or JFK. JFK is physically closer to where I'll be commuting from and has roughly the same number of daily flights, while ORD is about 30-45 mins further away but has 4 daily AE flights. Do you guys get routinely bumped from or are you able to "routinely" use other carriers ??

On AE/American you can see how many seats are available on every flight, thus helping you pick which flights to try for. You can also see where you are on the list and check in up to 24 hours before the flight. Not so with other carriers. I've always tried getting on another carrier first and having eagle as my backup because eagle costs money. 90 percent of the time I get on the first flight.

Look at it this way.

Commute on AE, you're first priority and can bump other airline pilots including AA.

On AA, only an AA pilot can bump you and you can bump other airline pilots.

Other airlines are first come first served except for their own employees.

I live in Roc and Commute to EWR. VERY EASY. If I were you, I would choose ORD as a base. There's about a dozen flights back and forth each day. A Few operated by Eagle the rest by United, Delta, Continental ect.

You have to pay to commute on your own aircraft? Thats Absurd...

The policy was made before limited/unlimited cabin jumpseats were available. AA/AE pilots are required to ride in the back (on passes) to allow offline riders like yourself to jumpseat. You could just say thanks.
