I saw this pop up a couple of hours ago too. 00 has a bunch of old hulls and a strong balance sheet. A fresher fuel sipping fleet would help SW stay ahead of the competition. I did not have access to the complete story. You?

What is out there that is new and fuel efficient enough to replace the current generation of planes and stay within current scope clauses?

Nothing readily apparent jumps out at me.

C series to big and a paper plane.

ARJ, Sukhoi? are within the scope clauses and are actually flying. I guess I don't see a Russian or Chinese aircraft being really reliable.

MRJ is a paper plane still

Maybe they go Q400 or whatever the next gen turbo prop is called.

Over at XJT I'm sure we'd all like to see the EMB-170 but going by SkyWest's past record I'd imagine we're in line to see a whole load of new CRJ-700s. *sarcasm*

Makes sense, and if they do rest assured that the majors will have to sign on for longer contracts with a greater commitments for the underwriting of these jets.

No sir. You would like to see 170s at a regional. Please do not associate all of us at XJT with your opinions. There isn't a person at XJT that I know that wants to see more 70 seaters at a regional. They belong at the major. Maybe you should have gone to RAH if you are so hung up on anything larger than 50 seats.

Apologies, sarcasm doesn't really work online....maybe I should have made myself clearer! (For the record I don't even think our 50 seaters should be flown outside of mainline...but that's a whole other debate)

Good man. Sorry I didn't read into your sarcasm. In this case I take it back. Indeed I agree with you. I'd like to see 50 seat jets at mainline too but I am afraid the ship has sailed away. Hope major guys realize quickly enough and try to take the 70 seat scope back. Hope for the best prepare for the worst.

The truly sad reality is that if you won't fly a 70+ seater, somebody else is more than willing to do it for you. In fact, they already are.
