Six-Month Recurrent Sim
I have a 6-month ride coming up.
What software do you use at home to prepare for recurrent sim?

Looking at purchasing:

I would venture to say that none of those items would be necessary for your PC. I have yet to meet a single pilot who goes over scenarios via a pc based simulator.

I think that your time would be better spent with a cockpit poster and a copy of your QRH, QRC and memory items. It is great while you are flying to go over these items during cruise with the other pilot. Every so often ask your flying partner to do some "chair" flying with you while in cruise. Switch roles as PF and PNF and touch or point to the levers, switches and buttons you will push and verbalize what you are doing. Talk to other pilots and ask them what techniques they have which may be helpful to you. A CA told me something they do on a V1 cut as well as SE go around which I put to use which made things easier.

Not that a computer sim would hurt you I just do not feel it would do a lot for you in preparation.

On a side note...after every checkride and PC and training event take good notes on what they tell you. Write down what went well and what did not and ask their advice for how you could have done it better. After a few years you will have a nice list compiled that you can study to help you from making the same mistake twice and making things just a bit easier the next go.

What airline do you work for that is telling you to buy a computer game?

If it is a 121 PC then know your flows, the required maneuvers, and have your memory items and the appropriate call outs memorized. Read your FOM and CFM (or whatever acronym your company uses) and brush up on systems knowledge. The instructor will know you aren't used to flying the sim so they will let you get the feel for it before they start doing maneuvers. If you passed a checkride in that airplane you will be fine.

Wow....just wow! How about flying the airplane!? Whenever I had recurrent coming up I always did a few VOR appchs on line to get the feel of it again. I did alot more hand flying as well. But I guess they teach that whole hand flying thing anymore do they?
