I've thought about that so what I'm just going to do is grab the necessary piston time over the mins in case it comes up. My feelings on the matter are a bit swayed as I can see where they come from, but if the FAA says it's legal why should they make a big deal out of it? The flights in this case are all Pt. 91 and I've been reading the POH front to back in case questions arise on the interview. If my butt is logging PIC I better damn well know how the plane operates.
They get to make the rules. They can be more stringent, just not more lenient. USMCFLYR |

I would think you'd be in a far better situation in that case, especially with a company like Lakes with 1900s, I'm sure they can ask a fair bit about the King Air knowing it has similarities with the 1900.
And again, I'm not saying every company minds, or telling you not to do it, just telling you what my experience was. |

Ya I've heard the same I'm not going to advertise flying it, but if they ask I wont deny and just answer a question to the best of my ability. I have 4 pinks from damn CFI rides. I know a recent new hire made it with 3 and it wasn't much of a deal to them. Sounded like they were looking at the overall picture. At least I hope that's what they do. If it it doesn't work out life goes on....

I do appreciate the insight. I think you are at PDT or CommutAir? I've been applying to those 2 places too, but with my busts I think I'm sol.
I don't know a thing about Piedmont besides they can single engine taxi and we can't. :p |

You realize jsf that it is not a good saying right? Also - be careful about the early feelings - think 'honeymoon phase'. It is great that you are excited and motivated, but some of what your saying is coming off as having drank massive amounts of kool-aide already and defending the new wife that you've known for 2 weeks. Plenty of people on these boards do have experience to back up what they say. I'm saying this as someone who only reads about GLA so I really have no dog in this fight except for an unbias view from an outsider. Enjoy the traing jsf and keep that nose to the grindstone. Good luck. USMCFLYR |

Sounds like you will at least be honest and take the blame for the failures. Thats what they are looking for. As for getting the call for an interview, I got a buddy hired with much less tt and multi than you have right now. Internal recs go very far with the cp office. If you know someone here give them a call and get them to do you the favor. Could save you money on that lat 5 hr of multi.

Are people applying to GLA aware of their financial problems? It's not a question of "if" but "when" an airline has financial problems. Are you aware of your future financial problems? It's not a question of "if" but "when" a pilot has financial problems :D Seriously, I don't know an airline or a pilot who hasn't hit a rough patch from time to time. Myself included. Jeez, it's the nature of the beast. Run into training, study, hold on for as long as you can and then parley it into a better gig. I know too many pilots who would KILL to have some BE1900 Turbine PIC time. What is the upgrade running there anyway from those in the trenches? -P.S. the pure street cred Lakes Pilots have should never be discounted. The F'ers can fly. Period. |

Anyone having an interview soon, good luck. This place seems like a great place to be at. Sure the pay isn't the greatest, but a lot of other things make up for it.

Yes, they're strict on the multi time, as long as you have that, apply! If you get an offer, study your butt off and be proficient at instrument flying in something that does approaches from 180-140KIAS, know how to use an RMI and NDBs in strong cross winds. I'm in sim training right now, and these are big. The training is survivable if you're commited, study like you've never studied before, and can MEMORIZE things verbatum. Good luck to everyone wanting to come here. Tired of waiting on AE. |
I landed the job with only 21 multi over the summer, granted I had 2400 total. The only reason I didn't take it is because work offered me the multi-slot and GLA had that whole (and still has) the $32 million payment due on their planes.

September is our last class for the year thats the word today. Dam dude, you'd think that attrition would move some folks into other seats. I guess it's only 3 1/2 months till 2012, but still. I'll never forget the Southwest Jumps-seater I pulled out of Durango a few years back, he came up and introduced himself, as is etiquette, and I had to ask, "so where were you before Southwest?" he said, "lakes". Nothing but respect. Nice. |

Are you serious ?? You are telling me Great Lakes are the only people hiring out there right now ?
The only people that are willing to call me with my times I guess, I applied at AE in june and haven't got anything from them not even a thank you but no thank you email, sent my resume at PSA and Pdmt and nothing. In my record the only thing I got is 1 fail Oral for the commercial ME ride and 4 traffic tickets, 3 between 2001 and 2004 and 1 in 2008 and a DL suspension for non payment of car insurance while I was deployed 2002/2004... I'm at 590TT and 95ME right now... |

Again, just be honest and talk about that stuff, we've all had 'em, no biggie. The one thing that strikes me is; do you have your CFI? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in gleaning your posts, I didn't hear you mention that. Granted, it's a huge commitment to take on if you don’t' have it yet, but I'd really look into getting that cert. Again, you can make it happen without it, but almost any airline HR dept. is going to lean towards the pilots who were CFI's. You get on with a decent school and you could be flying your tail off. Although I should be honest, my intel on the current CFI job market/flying is pretty out dated. But if nothing else, keep flying and getting that time in the log book! Good luck! |

That's it? Then it's only flight time that holds you back. Most people I know, myself included, have a bust on their record. Don't want to drift this to the whole check ride bust discussion, but if you have a bust during your GA training days, it's a no-harm-no-foul. But if you have a bust during your 121 time, that's a little more sticky. Is it a show stopper either way? Hell no! I know two guys with busts in 121 events and moved on to great carriers. One guy busted his upgrade, the other busted a type ride on new equipment.
