Comair and ASA (and other DTW transplants)

For the love of pete, don't block the taxiways around the B/C Concourse. Trust me, DTW Ground doesn't like it (even gates), and neither does Ramp Control.

When you turn to line up with the gate, pull up to the zipper road. RJ drivers, you know you have pulled up enough when the first zipper disappears under your nose. This provides the rest of the traffic around the area enough room to taxi past remaining centered on the centerline.

There are just some things Mesaba, Compass, and Pinnacle never had issues with up here (well that and no holding into DTW).

I wonder how many Comair pilots care about helping to make a Delta hub efficient?

If you don't comply, your little RJ will be pushed around by a spare A380 kept nearby for this purpose

What's REALLY funny is that I actually visualized a DTW airport owned A380 that just taxies around biting the ass of anyone who doesn't taxi in close enough.

That was a good chuckle.

Air France runs the A340 around, that could do the trick. We were taxing in last month and ramp told us to hold position due to rogue Air France Airbus that was not talking to anyone. He taxied past us and to the gate with out talking to anyone. The whole ramp was held until he was at his gate. We all know how Air France feels about Delta RJ's...

Worry about your own plane and let the ASA and Comair crews worry about theirs.

Interesting - last time I was up there we were forced to wait for a Pinnacle -200 because the crew didn't get this concept.

Besides, if we don't stick our tails out, how can we ever hope to become a heavy jet's next victim? Common, you know you want to be part of that exclusive Comair/ASA club where a Skyteam member slaps your a** with it's wing!

Avroman 09-09-2011 02:12 PM

What's the hurry Comair? You are just going to call in what ever times suit you anyway.

Because not having ACARS = a much-needed pay adjustment! F.U. Delta

newarkblows 09-09-2011 03:25 PM

You are paid by the minute. Unless it is the last leg of a trip just sit there and think happy thoughts. If it is the last leg say something to them and explain it is the last leg and your stuck behind them. Most people will help you out.

RamenNoodles 09-09-2011 03:44 PM

It's not really that big of a deal. Many of the ASA crews transiting DTW are not based there and would gladly comply if they were familiar with this ellusive "zipper rule." You don't see any ASA people complaining when Pinnacle 200's dork up the ramp in ATL. We all visit unfamiliar places. Paid by the minute, my friend.

Avroman 09-09-2011 04:09 PM

All the more reason I ask, why so impatient then?

The most interesting thing about this thread was the fact that I farted while typing this and it didn't smell, amazing.

Three pages about the zipper road in Detroit. Another three should about do it. In before the lock

Farmlover 09-10-2011 12:09 PM

is it really that hard for you guys to pull up, i have almost missed commutes because of this, it has ran smooth for years and now its a bunch of guys that wont pull up and wont reply to ground when ground ask's them to pull up, the zipper wont bite.

We do it just to **** you off:D

If it's that important it should be in our Jepp charts. Obviously it's not. Until then we'll just keep doing our jobs as directed by our superiors.

Blame the ramp help for that, not the pilots. If any of us could get parked on time, no one would be concerned with the zipper.

mmaviator 09-10-2011 05:05 PM

Is Ground always telling you guys to move up good enough?

AIM 2-3-6. Other Markings

a. Vehicle Roadway Markings. The vehicle roadway markings are used when necessary to define a pathway for vehicle operations on or crossing areas that are also intended for aircraft. These markings consist of a white solid line to delineate each edge of the roadway and a dashed line to separate lanes within the edges of the roadway. In lieu of the solid lines, zipper markings may be used to delineate the edges of the vehicle roadway. (See FIG 2-3-18.) Details of the zipper markings are shown in FIG 2-3-19.

Our FOM requires at least one wing walker when crossing a roadway to block traffic entering the ramp.

So, no...

Well you aren't crossing any roadways. It's like the guy who stops 20 feet short of the line delineating the stop at a traffic light.

Your argument fails. You aren't violating your FOM by pulling up to the zipper.

You sure are bent out of shape on this. Maybe you should write a letter to all of the airlines that make your day miserable. And they can send out a memo and work it into recurrent training. We'll call it the "Farmlover" clause. Has a good jingle to it. After all we wouldn't want anymore tails to fall off. Thank you for starting this thread.

flycrj200 09-11-2011 07:16 AM

No that this has been brought up on here, I hope no one will pull up to the zipper line just to make your life a little more miserable I know I won’t.
