GLA flight benefits

As a Laker what type of flight benefits do you get? Any agreements with Frontier or UAL? What, if any, extend to your family?

1900CA 11-06-2011 06:09 PM

You get jumpseat privileges on just about any airline domestically and your parents and wife/domestic partner can fly free and Frontier and discounted on most others including UAL. Brothers and sisters do not get anything but buddy passes on Lakes which wont get you too much of anywhere....

Thanks for the advice. I will be attending a job fair at the end of this month and will be hoping to get an interview with GLA. My question is I have the TT time but I don't have the 30day times and I'm right on the border of the 6month times to schedule an interview and not multi current but IFR current. Meeting face to face with the CP would they be willing to possibly wave the 30 and 6 month times? If so should I get multi current or just wait and see what they answer and then go from there?

A pen can make that problem go away

From others experience I have heard of, without multi currency and ifr currency they will not even bother interviewing you. Hopefully that sheds light on what you should do prior to the job fair......

Cruz5350 11-07-2011 04:53 AM

I was offered an interview and was going to have to push it back due to personal issues. The timeframe was going to put me out of their currency requirements and they were going to take back the interview offer because of it. Suffice to say you need to meet their currency.

Is the currency requirements for insurance?

No just a requirement that they can ask due to the probably hundreds of resumes they have.

Cruz5350 11-07-2011 09:54 AM

Also as an FYI you might not know that they don't fly you to the interview unless it's on a Lakes flight.

Sounds like a great airline... and you top out at 15K as an FO, 35 as a captain?... sweet. Thats barely flying for food.

Cruz5350 11-07-2011 04:05 PM

You don't top out at 15K as an FO nor 35K as Captain, but it's not exactly much more. It is what it is.

RJSAviator76 11-07-2011 04:39 PM

I thought Lakes was going under...

Cruz5350 11-07-2011 06:07 PM

I'm sure more will come out on the 17th of this month which is when I believe another payment is due. I don't think they will be going under though.

EMB120IP 11-08-2011 04:47 AM

Really, they want proficiency, not just currency. IFR current is much different than proficient in my eyes. I've seen and talked to applicants who did as little as they could and showed up to class with IFR currency as of "x" number of months ago and failed miserably in the sim. Unfortunately, "current" doesn't cut it hand flying a 1900 sim or EMB sim while learning callouts, memory items, and procedures. If I had any suggestions, show up IFR current AND proficient. Hop in a sim (ms flight sim even) and make sure you scan is top notch. Even basic sim time will get your scan where it is needed to succeed in training.

As far as going out of business, don't count on it. Sorry to dissapoint some of you. I guess us "bottom feeders" just keep on screwing up your industry, huh?

Not my industry. Where I work, beer flows like wine and beautiful women instinctively flock like salmon of Capistrano... . ;) :D

So every pilot interviewing with GLA has to buy their own plane ticket for the interview if they are not traveling from a base? That's crazy!!

Even at crap Colgan in 2007, they flew you out and back for your interview.

How does anyone afford GLA? Serious Question

If you don't live in a base that they fly from then yes you have to buy your way to the interview. Look at who they are and who they codeshare for.... They can't offer it as easily as say Eagle or whomever. How does anyone afford GLA? Serious answer I make good money now and I've been saving for the day when I would take a lower paying job. It doesn't hurt that my wife has a decent career.

I don't plan on moving on anytime soon. I'm saving up to buy a worm store! It's called, "I got worms".

Hahahaha! :D:D:D

JamesNoBrakes 11-09-2011 04:44 AM

I got an interview offer from them a few months back (testing the waters). In the email there was the bit about "we don't pay for transportation, lodging, or training". I emailed them back and said "Shirley you're not serious?". Got a rejection email fairly quickly after that, haha.

They don't have a federal draft at GLA do they? So that would mean that if someone doesn't like they pay they don't have to work there I would think. Wonder if the people at Burger King say "don't go work at Wendy's they have crappy pay". There are good paying jobs and bad paying jobs. Take the one that suits your individual needs whether that be pay, QOL or just the fact that you can get that particular job at this point in your life.

I know, I know everyone claims that if people stopped working for $20K a year then pay would have to raise. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. With the amount of pilots out of work and on their way up, every crappily paid pilot could quit tomorrow and they would have no problem filling the seat. Hate the managment, hate other pilots that take the jobs, hate whom ever you like. It is what it is.

My guess is that I could take anyone on this board and hand them one million dollars. You have to run company X for me and hire 50 workers. After you hire the workers and pay expenses, then you get to keep whatever is left as your own. Every single person here would do just what the airlines do. Pay as little as possible to fill the position and pocket the extra cash.

Maybe we can trade one of those Brazillias straight up for a scooter to get us to Aspen!

EMB120IP 11-10-2011 03:25 PM

The scooter might have better weight restrictions out of ASE.

Sweet. My buddy went to Lakes to get quick upgrade time which he did got his 1000 TPIC got his old job back at FX (non flying) and is networking the right people internal to get an interview. I think he is on the right track. Oh and I just bought a crab store and mine is I got crabs....lol :D

Cruz5350 11-12-2011 11:30 AM

Well I was shocked at how the interview went. I thought it was hard but maybe I'm just hard on myself. Fully expect to not get the position.

How did it compare to the gouge?

I think its fair to say people at Burger King/Wendy's say don't work at Greak Lakes because of the crappy pay. There are many better airlines that are looking to hire, no excuse to work there.

The only gauge I looked at was on will fly for food. It was decent, but my nerves blocked out common sense knowledge. In the end it would be nice to get the offer, but I'm not sure if I want it now. A couple things put me off from the place.

1. Pay
2. Training Contract
3. Instability with payments for 1900's

All of which I was aware of before I took the interview, but given an interview makes it more real to you. The thought of hey I might be offered a job where I will have to make significant life changes just to fly a plane didn't settle well with me.

I was bummed after I left the interview to, but I'm over it. It's a job I have a good one now so life goes on.

Best of luck to all those with interviews in the future.

Also they don't pay for you to get out to training, you have to buy your own plane ticket

I have a friend that failed a Lakes Interview. Within a year he was hired by Skywest, take it for what it's worth.

O yeah almost forgot that one too. 2 months with no pay will dig into my savings just a bit.

I've actually heard that a bunch of times. Gives me a bit of hope.
