If you live in Ohio or Indiana, I'd say this isn't the worse place to work. If you don't, then expect 12-13 days off with less than half your trips being commutable on one end. That's if you're not stuck on reserve for 5 years like some of our CHQ FOs. The company loves outstation bases. As a new hire, you can expect to be placed in one. You won't be able to sniff a hub base for a very long time. Also, our current work rules make attempts at schedule improvement futile. I'm 0 for 32 at drop/swap attempts for the month of February.
I've been here 4+ years, bid 50% in my base and still buy on average 5-6 hotel rooms a month. I'll say it again, the company LOVES outstation bases. Sure I'm a little bit grizzled, but you prospective new hires need to hear the honest truth. The equipment is great if you're lucky enough to be on the E170/190, but everything else about this company sucks. I know a job is a job, but I can tell you my friends at Skywest, Pinnacolaba, Expressjet, Eagle, Air Whiskey, & PSA take home more cheddar with a significantly better quality of life. |
Do what? You're saying they will not get you back to your normal reserve base at the end of a trip and leave you hanging for a hotel room when they drop you some where?

@hockey - 90-95 CREDIT not blocked. Most of my friends at other places seem to have no trouble crediting 90-110 hours. Most months my credit is 85 ish with around 15 days off, and I'm in the top 10%. |
You're going to find haters at every airline. Regional or mainline. I've even heard UPS/FedEx guys b**ch. We're pilots, there's always something to complain about. You just have to decide which rules you can live with. If you're top 10%, great. If you're in the middle, life's still fair. If you're at the bottom, well, you're going to have good days and bad days. A new hire should never expect a glamorous QOL. That's what getting your foot in the door is all about. As for F9? Who knows what's going to happen. You'll get several pilots on here that like to just duke it out. No one knows how it's going to turn out. It could be good for RAH but bad for either pilot group. We won't know until it all happens.

I've been here ~5 years topped out on pay and my box 1 W-2 was 23K. That is what a maxed out FO with a meager contribution to 401K will earn here on Reserve. I'm reserve on the E-190 with 11 days off per month. The trips and reserve usage are incredibly inefficient. I typically fly 20-30 hours a month and deadhead about 30 hours on top of that but I work nearly every reserve day.
I'm working on my MS (engineering) so I can get out of this mess. I also have a second job. I can't stress enough, go somewhere else. Competence and integrity are two traits not found in our managers. |
