The small investment you have made will pale in comparison to the total compensation "lost" when someone else is willing to take your job for less.

This new rule is going to hold you back from a career in the aviation field?? There are other careers besides 121 carriers.

I for one, hope this new rule will improve the pay and QOL for all regional pilots.

Doing just a modicum of research on the past 10-15 years of regional pilot salary degredation and you will see a direct link to what you are trying to prevent. This law should have been past a decade ago to keep the SJS types, those I assume that will be signing this petition, from skipping the dues paying portion of an airline pilot career because its not "fair".

When I started my "career" (if you want to actually call it that) a pilot generally had to flight instruct for a few years, then move up to a freight job (flying crappy equipment) until you had about 2500 hours. Then maybe just MAYBE you had an opportunity to interview for a airline flying small turbo props. Hell, I was required to have 2500 hours (and 500 multi) to get my Caravan job. The entitlement mentality these days makes me shake my head.

The idea of a petition like this is moronic. For decades, pilots have been getting well over the required flight time by the NPRM to get into a 121 cockpit. It can be done by those willing to work hard.

A 121 FO seat should be filled by someone who is already an experienced pilot. A 250 hour commercial certificate holder is not an experienced pilot no matter how much they think they are. This isn't an entry level position and the law is finally changing to reflect that. Plus it serves as a way to weed out the pilots with an actual drive, talent, and ability from those who just had enough money to buy their way through the minimum required training. I couldn't be more happy and relieved. This is one of the best things to happen to professional pilots and the travelling public in a long time.

Plus, for all of us career wise, this finally creates a barrier to entry to the profession that will hopefully put supply/demand on our side and drive up wages. Doctors and lawyers aren't all paid a lot because thats what they're all worth... many are paid that much because the AMA and Bar Associations have made it hard to become one. They control the supply. This is a supply control for pilots.

Heck, I was recently one of those low-timer CFI types. And I STILL thought this legislation was a fantastic idea. Granted, I'm no longer in a CFI position... but the point stands.
