Commuting on United

Hey everyone,

Tried to commute on united the other day and the agent said the systems were switching to the Continental system and I would have to book online because they could no longer do it at the gate. Tried the online thing and it wont let me. Site has a note that the system could be down for a few days for the merger. Any idea when the system will be back up and if this is the really the new way to list for a united jumpseat?

zildjian_zach 03-08-2012 01:50 PM

They wouldn't let you jumpseat?

boilerflyer 03-08-2012 01:54 PM

nope, said because they were changing to the continental system his computer wanted some number that I would get by reserving online. As far as I can see you cant reserve online because the system isnt up yet. Just wondering if anyone knew anything about that

The handful of times I jumpseated on CO I walked up to the gate and listed, if they're using CO's system I don't see why it would be an issue?

My guess is that it had more to do with the systems being wound into one, or a lazy gate agent.

We were told to use the paper system again.

Yeah I guess it could have been confusion with the new system. Hopefully it all gets worked out soon, I enjoy flying on them.

The agent was wrong. On my commute the other day the UAL agent didn't know how to verify cass in the CAL system, so she just told me cass was down and not working properly. Then I promptly pulled up cass on my phone to show her it was in fact working. The agent was probably frustrated and didn't want to admit he/she didn't know what they were doing.

The gate agents have been thrown into a new system thats a bit odd for them and they're frustrated (On the UAL side).

They've got Suzie-Jane Evil B. and William-Robert Testi-squeeze (typical American entitled passengers) yelling at them all day and probably are reaching USPS anger levels.

Things will calm down in a couple weeks or so.

Just make sure you smile and show up early....grab em Starbucks if you catch someone who's clearly having a bad day.

Always remember.... "Hook a brotha up"

On a regional FO's salary? Just be like I would have gotten you Starbucks but I fly for united Express. Can you plz help me get home to see my loved ones for 32 hours?

Did you ask to speak to the Captain? He/she is the one who allows the JS, not the gate agent or some computer system.

Airhoss 03-08-2012 06:20 PM

YOU DO NOT have to list in the computer to jump seat on UAL. The gate agent was wrong. It works just like it used to.

Had the same "cass isn't working bs" on a mainline united flight a few days ago. The captains called SOC and they said he could let me on the flight if my medical/license was correct, it was his jumpseat. Faced with dispatching a flight with the wrong # of pax, they suddenly found someone who knew how to work CASS.

G5inmind 03-08-2012 07:46 PM

Well they just gave us(XJet), forms to fill out if we needed to jump seat. Like the guy said paper forms. And we just have to carry copies with us.

Went to catch a ride on skywest from cvg to ord and the gate people didnt know how to do the new computer system. They filled out a form and said go find a seat. No big deal and CA was ok with it and just laughed.

Where do you go to find that out? PM me if you have to.

I've had some similar issues over the last week or so. Supposedly the being able to list and clear has been fixed from the hardware/software side but there are still some agents who are either unwilling or unable to learn and remember how to do it properly. I carry a few of the forms with me now and anyone I'm jumping with or who is trying to get on a flight I'm working is welcome to one.

Funnily enough, I had an agent pull the "CASS is down" line on me not 6 minutes after having cleared security through the KCM line. When I mentioned that, another agent was able to "miraculously" coax the CASS servers back to life. Gotta love it. I told her next time, not to lie. If you don't know how to pull it up, just tell me and I'll go find someone else who can do it. There is no shame in admitting defeat, only in lieing about it :D
