Current 9L/XJ Saab Guys

Hey guys,

Just spoke with my new CP at PenAir. We need a few more direct entry CA and a few more FO. You must be currently flying for 9L/XJ for the accelerated Qualified New Hire training program to work.

Here are the requirements.

1. Must have 4000tt for CA candidates, no exceptions (sorry). No min for FO
2. Must be a current 9L/XJ pilot.
3. Looking for team players that can get along with the rest of us. Mostly all ex 9L guys.

Details:

1. BOS base taking over all the 9L EAS flying.(PBG BHB PQI)
2. Pay is more than current 9L CA pay.
3. totally commutable lines on both ends
4. NO RESERVE.
5. Mid April ground school in ANC Approx 2 weeks. Sim in Eagan, MN 5 days

I don't really want to answer a bunch of questions on here so if serious please just PM me with your name and I'll give you my email/phone number and we can chat.

If you don't meet the above requirements I'd like to respectfully ask that you do not contact me. 9L/XJ guys only.

Those are some big qualifications to be on bottom of the list. Better be huge pay increase. Heard they will give you half yrs starting pay for the amount youve been at 9L/XJ. So if youve been at these airlines for 10yrs, you start off at 5yr pay at Pen Air. Wonder it is how you say Pen Air pays more when you gotta take a pay cut, prob take another 5+yrs to make up the loss.

it may be a good operation there, not saying one way or another. Just be aware that they expect you to pay for your own transportation and lodging for training. They told me that they pay minimal pay while in training, some other guys have been told they don't get paid at all while in training. I can't afford to take that kind of hit even for a short while unfortunately.

that being said, it may be a worthwhile move for those people that have been with Colgan less than a year...but if you are a senior FO you might try to go somewhere else...you may have just reached Colgan upgrade mins, but you have to do another 2000 hours to get to Captain here. Also, there is no seniority list, upgrades are on time and merit.

If I am wrong anything PrancingHorse please correct me, I am just typing what I was told in a phone interview, trying to help give the complete picture.

"Captains start at $2,000 per month with $20/hr and a dollar and a hundred every year along plus safety bonus of $300 per month."

So, let me get this right, a third year CA...

80 hours per month earns...

$ 2000 Base
1600 Hourly
200 Longevity
300 "Safety bonus" (what is that?)
--------------------------
$4100 Total per month

Stand up line (40 hours)

$ 2000 Base
800 Hourly
200 Longevity
300 "Safety bonus"
--------------------------
$3300 Total per month

Current 9L third year pay $51.77 per hour, 80 hours, yields $4146 with no "fuzzy" pay.

"3. totally commutable lines on both ends"

That sounds good!

"4. NO RESERVE."

Does that mean there will be no, ZERO, reserve crews???

Methinks there are few details missing.

Guys I'm here to "sell" this job to anyone on a public forum. I'm just trying to help any of my ex 9L brothers that aren't delirious and sniffing glue about their future at Pinnacle.

PM me if you want the facts and are serious about the job. I don't want to waste my time with anyone with Pinnacle SJS. If you want to fly a jet or think you're gonna upgrade soon then stick it out.

FYI the numbers and info on APC are way off.

I'm a 4 year 9L SAAB CA and my average monthly pay IS going waaay up and I actually stand a better chance of actually getting my paycheck on time.

There are no 100% reserve lines but some schedules have a few reserve days built into them. There is plenty of reserve coverage.

The safety bonus is just a bonus that they can take away from yo for disciplinary reasons. It hardly ever happens. If they keep telling you to wear your tie and you don;t then they may say ok we're gonna take you bonus.

Like said I am not here to sell this job. If you could witness what we have so far you would be lining up to work here. I'm sure there will be challenges but look at my other option. A continual beating by Colgan. No thanks!

It beats what you are going to get from your unemployment benefits.

Wow, I don't even know where to start. Pen Air doesn't owe you (or any other 9L/XJ pilot, assuming you are one) a single thing. They're offering a job in the left seat to qualified pilots that they like. You're currently worth nothing to the airline industry. You are a redundant resource. Being offered any job is a good thing, getting preferential treatment is a great thing.

If this helps even one pilot, its a good thing. People with your attitude ruin good deals like this for everyone.

Hey guys just and update!!

As you can imagine I've gotten a ton of PMs, Texts, emails and calls over the last 2 days. As of now it looks like there is no more room on the PenAir life raft, sorry :(. However this may actually work out a little better. They are considering another class in a few months that I'm hoping can be filled with all 9L/XJ/9E guys. This may work time wise for some of you facing a potential furlough. So if you are interested PM me for my email address and GET ME A RESUME ASAP! I'm starting to put together a serious pool of guys for the next class.

The timing on this thing really sucks. If this BK announcement happened earlier we would have been able to find home for so many more guys. Because of the lack of initial interest they needed to fill classes and hired a bunch of lower time FO to fill slots that could have easily been given to furloughed Pinnacolaba pilots.
