Dtw pilots question
Why when taxiing out of 4N and ground clears you to hold short of U8 are the ground controllers so adamant about a runway readback. Your clearance limit does not cross any runways and the next conroller actually gives you a clearance to your runway. Tried to ask a controller the other day, wouldnt give me a answer.

Yea they are anal about runway assignment readback on the first call in dtw. But my biggest concern up there is not losing a wheel on taxiway M.

Aside from the fact that its required to read back runway hold short instructions, the following probably has a lot to do with it, in addition to the red hold lights (and occasional cones) on 9L at 21R.

The read back is for the runway assignment. I know they forget to give that to us sometimes, but if they give it to us they want us to read it back.
|
It is a required read-back. In DTW they are super anal about it.

Because it's required and they requested it. Just do it. So you're that guy on ATC who always needs an answer or explanation if he doesn't agree. TOTD material.
He likely works at GoJetz, so he's TOTD material already. |
Lol you guys are funny, everyone has to throw a jab in and make an assumption. More curious than anything to see if anyone else has experienced this.

But the controllers do know which company's are more likely to be troublesome than others... |

Fair enough guys, not trying to start a battle, and not saying that the intent is to blatently not read back a runway assignment. New to the forums and was trying to have a conversation without being jumped on.
Respectively... |

Why do you need to read back the runway assignment in DTW?
The question should be "when is a runway readback not required?" Seriously though, you always read back a runway assignment. Yesterday @ JFK, I heard somebody (Comair or Pinnacle) arguing with GND over the runway assignment. I guess he didn't realize how silly he sounded. |

In a word: "no".

...and yes, it's a required readback. The OP is correct, though. Unlike other airports, DTW is particularly anal about it.
