Jumpseating vs. Non-rev Canada to U.S., $?
 

I was wondering if anyone knew if I'd save money trying to jumpseat vs. list on deltanet when flying from Canada to the U.S.? Deltanet is going to charge me 40+ bucks for taxes. I know I can't flight deck jumpseat but can I list as a jumpseater and not have to pay that money? Thanks!

The charge is the same. You have to pay the customs fees and taxes.

i had to pay when jump seating from atlanta to toronto. they make you whip out the credit card at the gate or else you no go.

That sucks, I have jumpseated from the US to Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia dozens of times and never once have I ever paid taxes departing the US. It's always departing the foreign country where I have had to pay the taxes!

That said, to the OP, the taxes I pay out of Canada (from YVR) is around $50 bucks, but as other as pointed out, you will pay them either way!

Correct, leaving US you pay nil.

Leaving Canada you will pay.

If you have delta flight benefits it will be 0 to go to Canada and a few bucks to get back.

Try jumpseating out on us carrier. Back on Canadian Carrier. This used to work.

I've been doing this for a dozen years MCO-YUL, and out of my base, either JFK or DTW. US carrier to Canada is free. Canadian carrier will charge you the departure taxes for whatever airport you're going out of. For instance, Air Canada charges 4 bucks MCO-YUL, but coming back is the kicker. $58 now to j/s out of YUL on Air Canada, $37 or so nonrev fee for DL. If you j/s DL, they actually charge MORE! Like $44 or so.

So, it depends on which way, and what carrier, and the airport departure taxes. YUL used to be only $15, and you could bypass their little desk while in uniform. But now, it's all incorporated into the ticket. AC's nonrev line is 800-413-1113 #1 for English, #5 for reciprocol j/s desk.

Yeah, been doing the TPA-YUL thing for a while and the darm airport taxes of $58. is getting a bit high. Glad I did'nt go to Sunwing where I'd have to pay that tax each week to get home..

I finished a trip in Ottowa with a DH back to my US base. I skipped the DH and went over to WestJet to get a jumpseat home to MCO. Guess what... WestJet don't allow jumpseaters. At least a year ago they didn't. I went over to Air Canada and got a ride in first class with them.
