Int nonrev clearing customs in US
I just returned from Munich clearing customs in PHL (not in uniform but wearing my company ID) when I handed the agent my customs form he said thanks and next time hide your employee badge when you come through here. Anyone know the reason for that?

Why do you feel the need to wear your badge when you're not on duty, as it's not needed to be in the sterile area since you have a TICKET? There's a term for you among some FA's..."shirt pinchers"...as in the ridiculous look of your ID hanging from your civilian clothes, with the clip pinching your shirt if you don't have a lanyard. The only reason you're wearing it is you think you'll get some special treatment, which is why the customs guy (rightfully) told you to take it off. You're not on duty, get in line with everybody else. This is usually seen among young new hires who want to impress their girlfriends while non-reving by strutting around with a badge they don't need to be wearing. The rest of us normal people prefer our anonymity when co-mingling with the public. //Rant off// |
I was in line with everyone else and about to hit the security line again to connect to my next flight which I didn't have a boarding pass for yet. So don't assume I'm looking for some kind of "special treatment" if its a US carrier there is no special treatment anymore. What no extra cookie or free bottle of water? No thanks! If you don't have an answer then move along. // Rant Over

Chalk me up on the opposite side of the board from blastoff. I've been asked by CBP officers in the US for my ID, as I guess they can see in their computers something about your profession. They asked who I worked for, I explained and handed over my ID. No problem, I just don't feel like arguing with everyone I come into contact with. Same thing in AMS.....was asked about my employer by the security people at the gate, and they asked me for my ID. I just wear it through now and it hasn't been a problem. No need to rant. Everyone is different.
