Uniform questions

I've been looking, even asking at some of the local uniform shops, but does someone know where I can get a company issued tie converted to a zipper tie, and if someone will embroider company wings on shirts?

Drums4life 10-28-2012 06:46 PM

And why cant you just buy a zipper tie?

Just throwing this out there but I'm guessing he works for one of those airlines that insists he wears a tie with the airline's logo or design on it.

rickair7777 10-29-2012 06:58 AM

Cut the logo off an existing tie and have it sewn onto a zip tie?

Sturbmaster 10-29-2012 07:20 AM

Step 1. Tie your current tie.

step 2. Then loosen it around your neck about 1 1/2-2 inches.

Step 3. Now cut the piece that would be around the back of your neck.

Step 4. Buy and sew a square of Velcro to either side.

Step 5. Velcro tie in place, just as good as a zipper tie and in the unlikely event a terrorist or jack*** feels its necessary to grab your tie to choke or bring you closer, you will have the last laugh!

And someone will now post about how zipper ties are "unprofessional" in
3...2...1....

Love my zipper tie. !!!!

el jefe 10-29-2012 07:44 AM

I wish every tie I had was a zipper tie.

While not unprofessional they sure are lazy.

Fly782 10-29-2012 09:05 AM

Why not just tie it once and slip it over your head the same way?

Heads too big he's a pilot....:D

ExperimentalAB 10-29-2012 09:48 AM

Certainly not unprofessional, but I'd have a tough time taking myself seriously LoL. Like wearing velcro-sneakers!

gatorhater 10-29-2012 01:06 PM

I always had trouble keeping it up, after a couple hours it usually had begun to sag.

The zipper tie that is. I ended up returning to the standard model since clip on ties really do look like crap.

Hahaha...yeaaah. Anyway, you do always end up with that gap there at your top button. No thanks.

Zipper ties look fine, you can't even tell. I don't like clip-ons but I wear one anyway because of the "break-away" feature...don't want some belligerent to choke me out with it.

Is that something you believe there is a legitment risk of happening?

Why practice V1 cuts, is it something that you believe there is a legitimate risk of happening?

Required by the FAA.
Regarding zipper ties, if yours is unzipping then you got a bad one. I had that problem with one once, returned it and the new one worked fine.

OceanicPilot 10-30-2012 10:41 AM

Loved my zipper ties when I had them as well.....

There is a very legitimate risk of an engine failure so its best to practice them using a worst case scenario (v1)

There is also a risk that someone could try to control you by grabbing your tie, hence why some choose to wear a clip on. I don't, but I can understand why some do.

This is why I'm nice to my F/A's....:D

jsfBoat 11-01-2012 02:33 PM

Zipper ties are like girlfriends, when one starts to sag and covered with stains, time to buy a new one, they're cheap enough :D

I hated those ties also until I borrowed one from a friend and I haven't looked back, I'm horrible at tying ties, so it works for me. Our ties are black and have a logo, but I might just stick to the plain black tie that I already have.

What about wings being embroided? Does no one do that?

Classy ! On so many levels.

flyandive 11-01-2012 07:12 PM

I personally like the zipper ties made by A Cut Above Uniforms. They have a locking tab underneath that prevents them from slipping down.
