Skipper, Mooney....you're not hearing things and I can't explain it. I've noticed this many times on the PRMs into ATL. So much so that we're hearing landing clearances in one ear and crossing clearances in the other and looking at each other like "what the heck is that about?". I don't know if it's a deliberate thing or some sort of bleed over because it doesn't seem to happen EVERY time. Another thing I've noticed is that quite frequently right after you get switched to tower, you'll have a guy on the monitor frequency ask you to say speed or some such thing. (you could tell it was the monitor frequency by where I had the volume set) Maybe I read too much into it but it sure seemed like they were just testing to see if you had tuned up the monitor freq. It was also a different voice like when you start hearing those other transmissions (rwy crossings, etc.)

I dunno?

Hmm...crazy. Wonder if its bleed over or something. Crazy question, but have any of you guys mentioned it to ATC or company so they can mention it to ATL ATC? At least if the right people hear about this issue there is a chance it can get fixed or at least explained.

And it might be worth it to mention this to the FAA outside of ATC, otherwise it's an FAA organization "investigating it's own", but if it's at least a different FAA organization, it would help to effect a change. There are several avenues that could be pursued.

That's pretty similar to what I experienced. Glad I'm not crazy. Last time it happened, we were in actual, and they were still busy, so I didn't have time to ask about it.

I've never noticed any chatter on the monitor freq. in ATL, just the tower simulcast and final monitor checking speeds, asking if airplanes are up, or asking for an occasional course correction.

I noticed this too yesterday!

I've got to say, I've been based in ATL for 13 years, and am in and out of there a couple legs a day, 3 days a week. I've never once experienced what you guys are discussing.

Are you sure you had the monitor frequency dialed in and not another tower frequency? There are 5 tower frequencies in ATL, 2 on the north, 2 on the middle, and 1 on 28. There are also separate Monitor freq's for the PRM approaches.

26.9 right?

I seem to do a PRM more often than not here lately in the mornings. I haven't heard anything like this at all either.

Separate monitor frequencies for the 8/26s, 9/27s, and 10/28.

I've heard distracting chatter in ATL on the monitor frequency numerous times in the past as well, this was about 3 years ago and I remember it being quite common. It never made sense to me.
