Colgan Interview
so i applied yesterday to colgan got a call today and have a interview scheduled for friday any words of advice at all, this is my first airline interview
|
study your atp written material and be real. THey will be watching you from he time you walk in the door. Good luck
|
go in the commercial and atp gliem books and study the weather questions....have a good idea of why you want to be there and fly turboprops instead of jets. also, get on flight sim and fly the ILS 22 into LGA and practice holding....the full motion 1900 sim is sweet and can be challenging if you are under prepared. know the systems of your current multi backwards and forwards, and be able to read TAF's and METARS like the back of your hand (which I'm sure you already can). go to aviationinterviews.com and read the gouges, they are helpful. if you show them you are sharp and confident right off the bat you won't get as many technical questions, but it’s my experience that every interview at Colgan is somewhat different....some guys got asked more questions that were more difficult, some guys came off well and didn't get as many. Just make sure you are good on the written and the instrument stuff because busting the sim and/or the written will result in an automatic dismissal. I just interviewed there a little while ago and was offered the position on the spot, however I spent a lot of hours preparing. Study hard and you'll do fine, best of luck!

Just curious, i turned 21 in sept., coming up on 600tt and ill be looking to apply to the regionals in the spring. Is it worth taking the atp written before i start applying since i cant actually get my atp till im 23 and ill only have about 6 months before it expires?

A friend of mine took some gold bond powder with him and got hired, no powder from me no job.
Don't mention the word union, don't act like you may have an active thought in your head. Work on your puppet dance and they like the robot too. Seriously from what I have seen it is luck of the draw, try to get in the room early. If they are looking for 6 and get 6 in the very early stages of the interview they will humor you with a quick conversation but then you're out, apply again in 6 months. If you have boobs that helps. Sorry girls not being sexist it just does. |

I just interviewed there yesterday. It was a pretty easy interview. Quick sim ride. Just a few climbs, turns, a hold at the LGA vor only had to do one lap then the ILS 22 back into LGA. No wind so just keep up your scan and you'll do fine. As far as the rest of the interview, stay relaxed, be honest and the job is yours. As far as the technical part, I was only asked to describe the engines on the Twin Otter that i have flown. I had to brief the ILS 4 into BOS and then finger fly it. No more technical questions. The famous what would you do if the captain descended below MDA on an approach came up. What ever you decided, just stick with your original decision, they do not want to see you second guess yourself.
The written test was all weather and IFR stuff. Know your jepps, basic weather theory and you'll be fine. If your a CFI-I, itll be a breeze. Just show confidence, be yourself, and the job is yours to take. They offered me the position, unfortunatly i had to decline, but it seems like a great place to work. Good luck |
flyguy how much time do you have??

1000 tt and 103 multi |
I had to decline the position becuase they were hiring for the Nov. 28th class which was not enough time for my current employer. As far as time, I only have 630TT with 105 multi, however i have 30 hrs of DHC6 (twin otter) time which i think was a big advantage.
I wasnt able to meet anyone there because the flight they booked me on was delayed in PHL for over an hour. I didnt show up to flight safety till 1230. Just curious, what did you think of the whole thing? |

For the guys that just interviewed,
How difficult would you say the interview was and do you think it was as hard as the CFI checkride in terms of material covered. I know some guys that had 7 hour orals for their CFI, so I'm trying to get a good feel for what I should expect If I apply there. |
The Colgan interview is not that bad Personality plays big with the. Wear a suit be polite and act like you never ever want to fly a jet. I had a guy in my interview who was absolutely horrible in the SIM, I mean bad and even he got the job so the SIM isnt that biga deal. They will try to intimidate you before the sim to, i remmeber Cathy saying "You don't have much recent multi time so you are really going to have to nail the sim" Well I did nail it but don't let that psych you out. Its not a hard interview

Hey, thanks SAAB,
How long was your oral question and answer session and what are the emphasis areas they want you to know? |
it was quick fuel system, engines touchdown zone, no charts "the fella who interviewed me was my old CFi so that was nice"
|
Saab, when did you interview at Colgan?

What about the HR questions? How do you answer some of those "Captain is .....?" questions?-LAFF
don't argue with him, just call the tower and tell them you're going missed, then its the captains fault if he lands :) |
Wait, you mean that's not ok? The captain told me he was god and never to question him. We landed just fine.

GO COLGAN I find it funny that some of the delays and cancelations are needless. I know of an instance where a flight would have been ontime but was 6 hours late because of a stupid plane swap. Seems like that could have been easily avoided. |
