Default RAH Upgrade times.......9 1/2 Years

Well the new upgrades bids were just released and 50 F/Os are now upgrading. Sounds great right? Wrong! As of right now the seniority list is showing upgrades from the May of '07 class. From that point, with upgrades only happening every 4 to 6 months, it will take 9 1/2 years for the last guy on the list to upgrade (927 people after the May '07 class).

Will retirements at the majors and people leaving for that help? Yes but not much. There are a HUGE amount of Captains that have been here from anywhere between 9 - 25 years and with them making $85,00 - $116,000 respectively, yeah they ain't leavin'!

So what's my point? DON'T COME HERE! Do you want to be stuck here for 9 1/2 years or longer on this crappy contract, (capping out at $36,000 a year) which has no end in sight by the way!!?? You will be better off at Skywest, American Eagle, and even Pinnacle before coming here! Consider yourselves warned!

That's not a very accurate way to make projections about the future. How long would the upgrade at American be using that method? Not that I'm advocating going to RAH, just that the decision about whether or not take a job ought to be based in reality.

Have to agree... right now... at this point in time... the guys upgrading are at 6 years... yes that still sucks... but its not 9 1/2 years. Upgrade times are just snapshots in time.

Alright, I understand your points, I'm just trying to warn people who are thinking of coming here since I've seen a lot of RAH forums on these boards recently. I was hired in '08, promptly furloughed, not called back until 2010, and due to the corrupt union presidency at the time, and the way our company manipulates everything they touch, I lost 2 years of seniority having to start over! I have been here going on 4 years and still have 3 years to go before I upgrade. 7 years to upgrade, it's not 9 1/2 years like the lower guys on the list, but is still too long!!

Better than ExpressJet (in terms of upgrade time, not $$$ or QOL)

There is about a 2 year period where there was no hiring at all between end of 08 and 10 somewhere. More realistically upgrade time is around 4-5 years if they keep hiring. If you hate it so much go somewhere else.

I was hired at RAH in Nov 07..... left less than a year later because of the looming furloughs. Only you can determine whether its worth staying or not. Grass is not always greener on the other side of the tarmac.

Don't go there dude!!!! You know how many companies are hiring right now....NONE!!!! And those that have hired briefly are hiring those that have 9,000 hours with 5,000 PIC. I've filled out countless applications, attended job fairs, and interviewed only once out of all those applications and been told they like my qualifications but have more applications from people who have the higher amount of hours and PIC time and to reapply in 6 months. Don't tell someone to go somewhere else when you don't know if they've tried and especially during this time of non-hiring!

I already am here. Sorry for your situation..but there were several years when you were employed when there was no hiring or movement at all, and furloughs. With the new rest rules coming up and the frenzy about not enough pilots to keep up with demand doubt there will be any stagnation for extended periods of time like before, unless they just go under which can always happen. Right now they are still hiring for all 3 cert.'s and supposedly going to announce new flying toward the end of the month. There are better regionals, like skywest/expressjet, but if you live in base and get the days off you want it's not that bad. Try Pt. 135 on-demand freight for a year as a comparison as a lot of people complaining on here have never worked anywhere else. If you want someone to blame, try the Union. Going on 6 years and still nothing to show..regardless of how the company is negotiating.

You know better than that. How many of our brothers & sisters have been displaced out of their bases in which they live in? Myself included. Most people's base history at RAH reads like a rap sheet.

Even if you live in base, our RSV rules make quality of life terrible.
