XJT Interview

Hello,

For those of you who have followed my posts dating back to June 2006. I have had a harsh time trying get into 121 job. Currently my totals are at 1345 and 125 MEL. However, I have not been in a twin since July 2006. Money is tight and still instructing non MEL students. I have 760 hrs. dual given. Did interview with XJT in Aug. 2006 and was not offered then. Jamie told me that I am more then welcome to reapply. Overall I think she was being sincere with that statement. The question stands what are my chances (NOV 22) Once I reapply to get an invitation again. The other lady named Amy N. wrote me an e-mail 2 days later about something and said at bottom (Keep on flying and prepping hope too see you in houston, tx soon.

In all honesty did 6 and nothing.

Thanks

To be honest, it sounds like you are reading too much into some of the things said to you during and after the interview. Most of those sound like what they tell everyone just to be nice so I wouldn't put too much on those statements. From what I hear, people are waiting several weeks or months to hear about interviews due to the backlog of applications. Maybe being a reapplicant will help you get to the top sooner, maybe not. If you really want to be here, keep applying and trying to get an interview. If you have other options, you may want to pursue those in the mean time.

PS
What does "In all honesty did 6 and nothing" mean?

pilot754 11-21-2006 12:52 PM

Explicating

The 6 meaning: I have attended 6 Part 121 companies interviews and no offers.
I am 24 and desperate now. Thanks

David Watts 11-21-2006 01:22 PM

No need to be "desperate". I have a few friends that interviewed with a lot of companies before getting their job. There are quite a few people here at XJT that got turned down the first time and than offered a job on their second interview. If you want to really work here than keep applying and keep flying and gaining experience. I know multi time is hard to come by so keep trying to get some more of that. Who knows why a company hires or doesn't hire sometimes. Keep trying and you will be at an airline soon. Then you can start wish for other other things like more days off and better pay.

Good luck.

DMEarc 11-21-2006 01:34 PM

Mark, it's not the airlines, it's you.

pilot754 11-21-2006 01:38 PM

DMEarc: Do you have any suggestions or thoughts? Was my opinion that each other help one another. Or was I wrong?

DMEarc 11-21-2006 01:42 PM

Mark,

I've met you before. I know what your like. You've got to step back, relax, and take the interview like an interview. Don't try to impress them.

I saw your CommutAir write up. If I was a recruiter and read that, I would call of my buddies and we'd laugh about it. Answer the questions as they come. It's not as much about how you fly the airplane as it is how you present yourself. You're too abrasive.

Go see Lori Clark.

pilot754 11-21-2006 02:45 PM

DMEARC: Where did you meet me? Can you write me via e-mail [email protected] or a PM.

Thanks

freezingflyboy 11-21-2006 02:52 PM

Oh, this is the same guy who did the write up for CommutAir? Wow...yeah buddy, DMEarc is right on. You need to relax. Show some personality, try to be likeable. And no, being a suckup who would sell his soul to be at a particular company is NOT personality. Its not just if you are a walking encyclopedia of aviation knowledge that the interviewers are looking for. They want to see that you know your stuff, yes. But they also want to see if they or their friends could sit next to you for 4 days in a row both in the cockpit and at the bar. During my interview at XJT I flat out told one of the interviewers that I didn't know the answer to her questions. But when the HR interview came around I sold myself like there was no tomorrow, made em laugh a little and just tried to have a good time while I was there. Yaddy yadda, almost a year later I am having a blast here and can see why they do the interviews the way they do.

reelbigchair 11-21-2006 06:31 PM

Who are the other 4 of the 6?

pilot754 11-21-2006 07:06 PM

I think you need to take a good, hard look at yourself, maybe even get some close friends and family to get REAL honest with you. If you are having trouble getting hired at places like Mesa, Eagle, Pinnacle and TSA which are hiring just about anyone that applies, then you need to SERIOUSLY evaluate what it is about you that has prevented you from getting past the interview. You obviously look good on paper to have gotten so many opportunities to interview so the only thing that is left is your knowledge and/or your people skills. Some interview prep might be a good idea, get some objective advice from someone who doesn't care about hurting your feelings. Best of luck to you.

iflyjets4food 11-22-2006 04:03 AM

One of the guys that interviewed at Colgan when I did back in February had interviewed with at least 4 others at that time. I wish I could tell you he got hired, but I can't. Get some aviation specific interview prep. Above all, relax. That guys attitude was that he wanted to get a job flying an airliner and sleep with a few flight attendants. It didn't take me long to figure out why he had been told not to bother with the rest of the interview.

then i guess i have no chance since i'm approaching 28. :(

calm down, and keep plugging. and send resume's to almost everyone that flys a prop or RJ (except the known bad guys). don't be selective.

at least you're starting into things on an upswing. i graduated may '02, right as furloughs and hiring freezes hit full swing. it's taken me from then till now to get picked up by someone.

pilot754 11-22-2006 08:55 AM

What were your times? I've got friends with 500...wondering if they should waste the time applying.

JoeyMeatballs 11-23-2006 06:22 AM

I had a whole bunch of 600/100 hr guys in my hire class. 500 isnt going to cut it unless they are ATP guys, cause they might invite you for an interview then realize you don;y have the times and send you home and that would suck.

BROKE CFI 11-23-2006 07:03 AM

It took a little over two months to hear anything. I have 780/130 with ATP written.

Laxrox43 11-23-2006 08:46 AM

SAAB,

What if you are a couple hours short of mins...and lets say...your students keep canceling lessons and you don't get to 600 TT in time???

I just got the email yesterday, and my interview is Dec 6th. This concerns me...

CL65driver 11-23-2006 09:27 PM

We had a few in my class with the BARE mins... and they breezed right through ground and ftds. My sim partner is an academy grad... and he's doing well in the sim- considering he's only got 500 somewhat hours.

Blkflyer 11-24-2006 01:15 AM

Who Knows,, I was not offered a job at XJT because they didnt like my total multi Time in the last 6 months. Mind you I have over 170total multi.. I was turned down they said the TECH and Jepp and HR went well just that I didnt have enough multi in the last 6 months.. so guess what they said to reapply in 3 months.. and 3months to the day I had an email inviting me to another interview session, I didnt want to waste their time or my time and called them and asked just what kind of experience they were looking for multi wise in the last 6 months.. the person I spoke to said somthing like 60-100 I almost fell out of my chair at anyrate I got the email invite after sucessfully interviewing with comair I start Class on DEC 7, at Comair.. I can tell you at comair the Interview Experience was Just about the same as XJT but they use a whole person concept. XJT is a Great company and I would have loved to fly for them based on Domicile but there are other companies out there who will be compeating for pilots soon, so all is not lost dont give up and if you really want XJT keep trying. I just didnt want to put my eggs in one basket and hold out for one perticular company. This Industry is Crazy and unpredictable- so get in where you can and learn as much as you can I am in my 30s so no need for you to be desperate, remember ASA ACA Comair were and still good compaines ACA now defunk but things can take a Crap dive at any company so although XJT is relatively Healthy now that can change I hope that dont happen but ASA and Comair is taking a Beating from Delta at the moment, I dont know whta XJT contract is with Continental but they did loose 33% of their flying I say that to say this no one has a crystal ball to look at and all you can do is Hope for the best and go to work and do what you are paid and trained to do...

JoeyMeatballs 11-24-2006 04:36 AM

Well it was 33% of their a/c , not 33% of their flying, but either way it isnt good

Dude, listen to the other guys who appear to know you. If Mesa didn't hire you with your hours, something is wrong. And I mean this in a constructive way that will hopefully help you get the job you want.

JoeyMeatballs 11-24-2006 05:36 AM

Maybe MESA knew he would jump ship as soon as he got his time ;)

But he is right something is going on there for you to have 6 interviews and not get any offers, people think I am an ass and I am 2 for 2 :)

When you did the application, did you say you had more time than you actually had? I have heard of folks getting called out of the interview and sent home because they check your logbook against the date you did the online application. If you checked the "yes" box next to where it says "Do you have at least XXX hours?" but in reality you didn't but were expecting to have that by the interview you may be in trouble.

Hope that isn't too hard to understand, I had to read it over a couple times to make sense of it and I wrote the thing:D Bottom line: its not worth risking a black mark like that just because you can't wait the 2 weeks it takes to build your 10-20 hours to meet the mins.
