Sooo, when can i wear my uniform?
I just got my uniform in today. I just passed my oral with TSA and have my sim on friday. I wanted to wear it when i jumpseated back to my base so i could carry liquids in my carry-on, but i didn't know if there was some sort of code to when you can wear the uniform :o

Um, theoretically, if you have a valid crew ID and a COMPLETE uniform (hat emblem, wings, epaulets, etc) it probably won't raise any questions.
However, I'd personally wait until I had finished my FO checkride and was considered a fully qualified CREWMEMBER, since when jumpseating you are considered "Other Member of the Crew" when doing so, and being in uniform only reinforces that image. |

I just figured it would be easier to bring my suit down by wearing it as opposed to checking in a bag and such. |
Eh- just ball your uniform up in your roll aboard- hell that's what most pilots do these days anyway.
I'm not sure about how various TSA folks are doing it, but if you have a valid part 121 crew ID, you should still be exempt from the liquid/carryon limit provided you are travelling to/from work, even if you're not in uniform. That said, not every place is the same these days. |
I was stopped going thru Vegas last week(not in uniform). I got to keep my stuff but a supervisor had to be called in (by the TSA agent to make sure it was ok). He was cordial and it was pretty quick. My beef was what difference does wearing the uniform make? Anyone can buy a uniform online very cheap and I told them so. A valid ID is all that should matter.

Uh, no. For some reason TSA still uses the uniform as the gold standard. So you need to be in uniform to take liquids in or they will confiscate them. As for me, as soon as I clear the security line , I run and change shirts.
This was the case at first, but I think now their official policy is to let crewmembers bring their liquids as long as they have a badge. I have been testing this for the last few weeks with no hassles or questions asked. (I do have a uniform handy that I could thrown on if necessary to save my shampoo). |

Thats what you get for wearing gel.
|
I tried it twice today out of uniform, they hassled me in MSP until I put it in a baggie, and PHL, well I interupted a conversation and I'm not sure anyone even checked my id, much less the liquids.
|
As long as you just have the ID they shouldn't jack anything. If they bother you, pull your uniform shirt out and ask them if they'll hold your jeans while you get the pants on...

ORF will take stuff if you're not in uniform (CREW tag and airport tag) - wear it if you have it!

Had to step behind the curtain and pull a superman quick-change in Wichita today to get my stuff back....I was pretty ****ed that it made a difference since I had every bag tagged as crew with my ID around my neck.

Those TSA folks
A TSA lady tried to take my KY Jelly recently while not in uniform. I winked at her, flashed my ID and said: "You wouldn't deny calcapt, the famous airline captain pimp, his working gel would you? She smiled and placed it back in my bag and asked how she too could join the posse. No really, it's true.:p
Actually, if you go through the "special line", while in or out of uniform, there are never ANY questions about what's in your bag. You can get a permission slip to go through the special line in Artesia, NM. |

Traveling through DSM this fall. I threw on a white shirt and blue tie with my leather coat. They said it wasn't standard uniform and that my ID wasn't enough. THey took my cologn, hair spray, inhailer, just about everything I NEEDED.

So I'm curious, what about you guys that work for NetJets or one of the other fractionals or even smaller 91/135 companies that have crew ids and "official" uniforms. Do you guys have exemptions too? How about doing things like using crew lines?
|
The Tub Stackers of America are getting way out of hand with silly rules. I noticed over this recent holiday they are even providing the bags. Our government is spending money on ZIPLOC bags!! The reason being millions of passengers can put their toothpaste in a magic bag that will make the world safer.
I don't understand the logic of the bags in the first place. I could just put a small bottle of eyedrops in my pocket and walk through the metal detector unscathed. Shouldn't someone be concentrating on the bigger picture? I wish we could fast forward two years from now to see what America will be like. Probably not much different except Bush will be out of office. Oh darn! |

I took one flight to get our airplane out of maintenance one time and we were short notice, one way - that almost always triggers a wanding and luggage search. When the TSA guy saw my crew tag on my briefcase, he apologized profusely and said he was just doing his job and he'll get me through as quickly as possible. I said don't worry about it, I'm not in a hurry. He was actually pretty cool. If they would just all be that way, they wouldn't get such a bad reputation. |

Somebody's paying for them. Remember this when the price goes up at the supper market or your glad stock doesn't do as well.
Good point, but to Glad, it is the same or less expensive than putting a commercial on prime time TV. |
