The problem with Colgan wasn't necessarily the inexperienced pilots. Their training (SF34, sim-IOE) was inadequate for the pilots they hired.

Ask the Eagle/Chicago Express street captains.

Yup. Surprise!!! You want to hire low time guys, either you train them a lot (military) or put them with experienced pilots (ANA, Cathay) or you hire pilots who have enough quality time to overcome your lack of in house training.
