USAir out of EYW

Just recently moved back to EYW and wondering about some of my commuting options out of there to get to work. I know USAir had express flights operating out of EYW a number of years ago (10 years ago when i lived there for sure), and there is still a counter there and everything, but i have yet to see a USAirways flight in there and I'm just wondering if and when they operate out of EYW? If anybody can shed some light on that for me it would be much appreciated.... My guess is that when they do operate, it is to CLT, but i can't find any flights when i do a search on usairways.com or on any of the flight tracker websites for that matter.

Thanks!!

DL goes to ATL in 737s and sometimes 319s... never seen them weight restricted.

FL (and i guess soon to be WN if not already) does MCO

And American eagle goes to MIA...

Those are all the airlines I've seen in there.

Yeah, i do know about DAL(i am one of the DCI guys ;) ) and am already using them and counting on them for my commute, but I know how the flights get jam-assed packed later in the year and just like to have options. You guys are great btw.... On a side note, I was curious about the 73 and Bus ever getting weight restricted. So far, it has gone out full almost every time i rode on it in the last two weeks(not in the cockpit).... Eagle is kind of a pain in the rear with the 145, seeing as how they almost NEVER allow a jmp in the cockpit (i've sat up there once and that was ORD-MEM or v.v. don't remember) and they are usually pretty full. It was a whole different thing when it was the ATR.... actually miss that thing, hard to believe I'm saying that.... It is already WN now out of EYW, but i think going to MCO is going to be an even bigger pain to get out of than EYW.... almost got stuck after i decided to go to MCO on GIA a number of years ago. Anyways, was just curious about US....

US Air (Republic) operates seasonally to CLT and DCA.
Southwest operates to MSY, TPA, and MCO.
Silver operates to FLL, TPA, and RSW.
Eagle does MIA.
Delta operates to ATL and LGA on Saturdays I think.
And Cape Air is still out there, not sure where they operate.

TillerEnvy 07-11-2013 01:21 PM

Republic flies in there seasonally for us. I don't think we do it right now. Too hot.

manfred33 07-11-2013 01:25 PM

Ahhhh, Republic.... gotcha. I thought I saw a DCA flight somewhere, sometime.... What is it, a 145 or 170? Not sure if the 170 can handle 4800' or not....

Silver is definitely an option through TPA... I had seen their schedules too.

I was mostly interested in USAir just cause then i could possibly get a DCI flight to DTW and have a better chance of getting on... Been a few years since i did the commuter song and dance, so I'm little rusty. Always something be said for living in base....

Thanks guys

I think US air still flies there but I think it's only seasonal.... as to what season, not a clue, sorry.

manfred33 07-11-2013 01:26 PM

Cape Air does RSW i think and one other city, i forget which, but don't think they would be of much help....

Yeah, DAL only does ATL.... Saturdays they do have 4 flights between ATL-EYW..... so i got dat goin' for me, which is nice.... :D Unless there is some kind of seasonal LGA service, but i would be really surprised if they do.

I've had 2 alternates, a cockpit jumpseater, and a butt in every seat in the back (including the FA jumpseats) and we weren't restricted. That's as full as it gets!

E170 for both DCA and CLT, but DCA was new this last season. Who knows if it'll be back in the fall.

AirTran/Southwest do MCO and TPA. At least they used to do TPA-EYW/EYW-TPA.

Republic used to fly into EYW year round during the days of the Carribbean hub in FLL, but the loads were very, very low in the summer so Airways went to seasonal service out of CLT. 170 never had any issues with performance. We were always able to get out of there with a full load if needed. The only issue in summer was flying around a 170 with 5-15 people on board. I believe the season in from October to April or May. Just check Airways future schedules. I don't think the service is daily during the winter as well.

Glad to hear they brought it back to DCA. The two day trips out of DCA to MCO, FLL, and EYW used to be a blast. Always lots of fun when you have a 24 hour layover in EYW......

Yeah, unfortunately they are not back. It's not a layover. DCA-EYW-DCA-(somewhere else). And it was only on weekends this last season. 24hr EYW layovers are not coming back

Mabee201 07-12-2013 08:06 PM

As already mentioned, Republic does seasonal service to EYW from both DCA and CLT. If I remember correctly, we start CLT-EYW in September and stop in May. There were 2-4 departures daily. When we used to have 86 seats on the 175, it was near impossible to take a full load out of EYW. As a matter of fact, I think US Airways only authorized a capacity of around 82-83 to help mitigate the weight restrictions we normally had out of EYW. Now all the 175s have 80 seats, and a full load is usually not a problem. It can get a little tight with an alternate, and some days may just not work out, but I would hope they'll do their best to get you on. I have never done EYW-DCA, so I can't really speak for the weight restrictions there. Landing in EYW with a full load is usually never a problem, as long as the runway is not wet. The EYW station manager says Airtran and Delta never seem to have problems with weight restrictions, so they may be more reliable. Cape Air runs a 402 between EYW-RSW several times a day, so perhaps they can help you out as well.
