ERJs/CRJs and landing on DCA Rwy 33
I was at Gravelly Point (little park just north of 19 threshold) today with my son watching airplanes.... Noticed that a majority of USAir Express, and other regional airlines, landed on runway 33.
Question - how do the ERJ/CRJ-type aircraft do with this relatively short runway? They were mostly CRjs, a few 145s and a bunch of 170s. Any performance issues? How about taking off on 15?
Reason I ask is, I didn't see one major airline using this runway. Even though I believe Boeings/Airbus can use it, nobody does.
Conversely, I didn't see many regionals landing on runway 1.
ATC keeping the regionals and majors on different runways, or was that just due to winds today? (Out of the north.)
Thanks...

As far as 15, much easier as they normally ask you to break for it from 19 and you just follow the river to that funny looking building and go straight.

I know certain airlines can't land on it per their opspecs. I land the 170 on it all the time and several times on the 190.. Its more of a pain to take off from as it will almost always be a flaps 4 takeoff and if you are going more than 500 miles away, you will be too heavy for it. Delta lands 320s in KEYW, which is a shorter runway but I've never seen them use 33/15.

First time I went into DCA it was visual rwy circle to 33. Did flaps 45 max reverse while lowering the field elevation 1 foot at the TDZ and I had the thing stopped in about 15 feet - put about 50 heads through the tray tables. A little ambitious I guess. There was plenty of room left.

5000 feet is short but not a big deal in the 145.
We have a few 5K ish runways out there. Tyler TX secondary runway is one.
I don't have the cards in front of me but 3500 ish required sounds somewhat normal.
