Comair Interviews

Anyone who interviewed on Dec, 5, 6, or 7 get a call yet??

PistolP 12-08-2006 02:14 PM

How did the interview go? I have my next week and would like to know how you organized your materials (application, records, etc.) for submission to Comair. Anything else you can tell us about the interview? By the way...hope you get a phone call drummflyer...

I had the paperwork that gets handed to them in a folder, and copies of that, my military records, logbook print out and originals of my license, passport, etc. in a 3 ring binder with a nice Comair RJ photo on the cover. The binder lets you access stuff really quick, and you can get pages made to hold business cards and photos to arrange the hard items (card holder for your license, 4x6 picture holder for passport/med). Keeps it all in one spot. They'll give you a folder with a bunch of HR stuff too. Plus when you interview elsewhere you just need to update it and swap out the cover

Good Luck.

Got the call yesterday afternoon! Starting Jan. 8. See the rest of you soon!

jawbn5 12-09-2006 09:15 PM

Interviewed Dec 6th. Got the call Dec 7. Class date Jan 8. Anyone else from the Dec 6th interview class get called?

Also... is Comair really in that much turmoil?

Spongebob 12-09-2006 11:52 PM

Yep... management went to the bankruptcy judge to impose an 11% pay cut, and Delta is handing some of their jets to Skywest.

Search for Comair at Yahoo finance or CNBC... or scroll through this board and you'll build the picture. How the heck did you know what questions to ask in the interview without knowing this?!?!?! Non-aviation Interview 101.

They're in hiring mode, but when you can't get work from your parent company, could be a warning sign. You did interview with other companies, right? Not saying you should turn Comair down, but you should have a back-up plan....

FWIW, I turned down a Jan 8th start date. I'm done flying.

One would think you would do the research BEFORE accepting the class date... You don't buy a fridge and THEN go see what Consumer Reports had to say about it...

For all who are preaching gloom and doom about Comair,, GET A LIFE none of the regionals ie Express jet, Skywest, TSA, PSA, Mesaba,Mesa, Pinnacle, Eagle ect ect are without their own set of problems, go where you think is best for you and do your job, this industry is unpredictable.. Hell even the Majors and Legacy carriers have their own issues. as for the Rumors, if you are not at a perticular carrier you dont do any good by spreading rumors., I can say first hand that Comair has a strong pilot group and the rest of the regionals can learn a thing or two from them remember they are responsible for rasing the bar pre 9-11 however we at Comair both management and the Pilot groupe will work trough our differences and we will get trough this difficult time in the industry when every one seems to be racing to the Bottom

BLKflyer -

Whoa dude. First the question was specific about Comair - I think if you look across the boards, the problems everyone has are readily apparent. Second, Comair has a GREAT group of pilots and I would happily work there, I am not going there because I had another opportunity come up that fits me better - like you mentioned, you need to look at YOUR situation and decided what is best. Third, I admire the Comair pilot group for continually standing your ground (especially preserving the wages of the junior folks), however, management has shown that they are more than will to lose revenue if the pilot group doesn't meet their "magic number" (as was testified on the stand by management folks in the current court case). I am not the only person who feels that Delta Management (note, not Comair management) would just assume close Comair than pay extra to have a wholly owned subsidiary - again, in the new, multiple articles and sources. Comair management is stuck in between trying to stay viable, keep the owners happy and take care of the employees. Being a pilot and a businessman, I understand and appreciate both sides - and capacity needs to come out of the system at some point. I'd hope that it would be one of the lesser outfits and not the 2nd best example of compensation (Horizon is first) to leave, but that probably won't be the case. I'd bet that Horizon goes through the same issues here soon.

Fourth, I am continually dismayed by folks who fill out an application, interview and go to work for the first company that offers them a job - without knowing anything about the actual company, the leadership, business model, strategic plan, contracts, profitability, etc. and only care about if they can get CRJ700's out of DFW and will quit if they get an ATR out of SJU. This is why RJ folks get killed at interviews with SWA, Cathay, etc. and can explain the crappy wages to a point (are you working to make the company more profitable and competitive, or are you just flying the jet from A to B? Any stick monkey can fly the jet.... again, I refer you to SWA)

DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Part of that would be a full understanding of the industry, and in this case the unpredictability of it.

Interviewing in any other industry, you should know what they do, how they make money, why they are different from their competitors, etc. If you talk to HR folks with industries where the job market is competitive, those applicants who understand the company and can ask serious questions that show an understanding of thisare the ones who stand out. Heck, I asked straight up about the contract in my interview with Comair, and we talked about if for 15 minutes. That let ME know that the staff was fully aware of what was going on - good sign. AND I got hired after addressing the 300lb gorilla in the corner, and my knowledge of the company probably helped my case.

In closing on my rant, I wasn't bashing Comair, more just continued frustration with folks' inability here to move past the CFI level into the big, scary real world. "How many days off do I have" is a legitimate interview question, or pre-interview question for this forum (which it is GREAT for)...if you come here and ask "I'm starting at Comair tomorrow, how many days off will I have a month" means your being dumb.

Hopefully my continued rants on this will help! :(

And why is that?

Spongebob 12-10-2006 08:05 PM

Only a matter of time before someone gunning for a bonus asks "why are we paying our guys so much more? If we got our labor costs down we could bid on all this other business...."

Horizon is a great organization, just worried about Alaska losing interest or starting to think they can get someone else to service them cheaper....

State of the industry...

Blkflyer 12-11-2006 03:17 AM

Mr Spongebob fact is You nor the media knows what is going on at Comair its all speculation, their is a breaking point and management knows they can only squezze so much blood from a turnip, as for Delta, they will still have to find someone to fly the airplanes and I doubt that you can get lower than the Industry Standard ie Mesa.. I dont know about you but when it becomes clear that someone can make more at Burger king that flying a jet aircraft for an airline people will start to wake up,, My rant is we have too many people flying that just want to fly for almost nothing,, hell I think we have peoople out there who would pay the regionals to fly.. as for Horizion what proof do you have.. BTW skywest WILL eventually go UNION if Management gets too Greedy..

Spongebob 12-11-2006 08:09 AM

as for Horizion what proof do you have.

I think I stated an opinion based on my continued use of I in my comments:

That said, I believe my statement because:
1. where one goes, they all go. Shareholders do not like having the highest paid employees in an industry.
2. If Horizon was not asking for a pay or benefit cut, the new contract would not be negotiation for 7 months and counting.

Just my opinion...feel free to consider me AFU. If you want the hard facts, look at Yahoo finance, don't come to an internet forum.

I interviewed on the 7th and got the call the next day. I start class on Jan. 8th...does anyone know what kind of material they are going to send before class starts?

BaylorPilot 12-11-2006 11:22 AM

I sent my stuff in through airlineapps and had an invitation to interview the next morning. This was about a month ago though. Maybe they have slowed a little? Make sure you use the airlineapps system if your not already. I faxed them a resume previous to using airlineapps and never heard a word.

azvandriver 12-11-2006 04:17 PM

I think it is automated, I submited my application and recieved an interview an hour later. A friend of mine just updated his app to 100 hours of multi time and immediatley recieved an offer for an interview.

BaylorPilot 12-11-2006 05:02 PM

Weird. I have my app in with airlineapps with 1000/380. Maybe they just don't like me.

lowflyby 12-12-2006 06:44 AM

I also applied on airlineapps about a month ago, and in less than 24 hours I got the interview email. Anyone else that is starting class on Jan. 8th...looking forward to meeting everyone!

azvandriver 12-12-2006 06:54 AM

I am leaving PHX today for an interview tomorrow. Hope to see you guys some time soon.

Taylor 12-12-2006 09:59 AM

I'll be submitting my application here shortly as well. Good luck to all that have applied.

Taylor
