FLICA hates Android

Any solutions for getting an app similar to what Iphone has, working on Android? Why does FLICA hate Android so much? Trying to use the internet to browse through the menu's is cumbersome.

thanks

Yea it is pretty lame they STILL don't have a FLICA app on Android. How many years has it been on the iPhone????

Might as well not have it on iphone, pretty much useless on ios7.

Gajre539 11-15-2013 08:56 PM

I use Flica on my Galaxy Note 2 and don't have any issues with it... but I use Firefox for Android, not the default Android browser.

My FLICA on my iPhone has been crashing for last one week. It is useless.

lolz. They mean why doesn't flica make an app for android like the one for iOS.... Of course flica works through the browser... Firefox, Chrome, Dolphin, etc... The iOS app is slick... Allows quick pairing views, crew members, and even has hotel #s in there so it's just a simple click and you're calling the hotel. I use Google Keep to save the numbers and have similar functionality but it isn't ideal...

I don't understand why someone would want a limited version of the full application. I found the link below... but I don't care to download and test it out.

FLICA Flight Crew / Android App / Made with Appsgeyser Free App Maker

Does that actually work?

Android is way better than iOS. Only people who are not as technically inclined like Apple products. Apple is great at telling you how to use their products since even after you buy the products they never really are yours. Android on the other hand allows you to customize your phone or tablet how you want. You can also root your phone or tablet and gain access to the bootloader to install different flavors of android like CyanogenMod. I can do a lot of things with my phone that an iOS device can only dream of. Next time why don't you tell us how you feel about your biased love for all things Apple.

I beg to differ... I would consider myself technically inclined. I have been building my own PCs and tweaking Windows for years. I made the switch from Android to iOS a year ago and I haven't looked back. iOS apps 99 times out of 100 are more polished and work better than their Android counterparts, in my experience. My iPhone and my iPad can share an internet connection in a few simple clicks, and when I update one the other is seamlessly updated as well. What few bugs exist on iOS apps are also worked out more quickly than those on Android. I still use a Windows PC and see no reason to switch. But when it comes to mobile devices, Apple and their simple user environment/interface are hard to beat. Do Apple products have their drawbacks? Of course. They cost a little more, the memory isn't externally expandable, and they are not infinitely tweakable. But my iPhone and iPad get the job done well the first time consistently with little to no headaches, which is more than I can say for my previous Android devices. Not everyone needs the ultra new coolest root or jailbreak which allows unlimited tweaking on their device. Some people just need their devices to work consistently ;)

While I agree with you that apps are a little more polished on iOS, especially for tablets, I disagree with you about functionality and consistency. By its very nature Android has been really buggy and unstable from the very beginning. Google's philosophy with Android was to make it expand and gain market share as fast as possible. As a result Android has been growing up at an amazing pace. I have had an Android phone since the very beginning of Android 1.0 and have seen the progress first hand. Right now Android 4.4 KitKat is extremely polished and extremely functional. Using it on my Nexus 7 tablet is amazing. Everything just plain works, it is fast, Google Now beats Siri hands down, and you have a million features that I won't even begin to list here.

My whole point is that iOS devices like you said are polished and consistent and simple. They are great at what they do. I really believe they are the best choice for less technically inclined people. When it is time for my grandparents and parents to get a new phone I try to steer them to iPhone because I agree with you. However if one truly wants full customization and control of their device Android is the way to go. You haven't been using Android for a year. The difference between Gingerbread and JellyBean is vast and especially KitKat. Android continues to evolve and in my opinion is starting to reach the level of polish of iOS. In the next 6 months to a year I expect to see an equal level of polish as iOS, perhaps it will surpass it, all the while doing things that iOS can't and will never do.

Now, back to the thread, iOS7 doesn't play well with the FLiCA App. I believe it's because they aren't interested in working on their mobile app. They truly need to get it fixed and also make an Android app.

Ramprat 11-17-2013 06:36 AM

I use Chrome on Android and the website works just fine.

Found this old thread...still wondering if there any updates on options for android users. I know there are some third-party apps out there but they all seem fake. Any suggestions or experience with other apps for FLICA with android?

Flight Crew View. I've been using it a couple weeks now. Works great!

This!

Developed by a pilot and he makes constant improvements. It is great. Better than the FLiCA iOS app in my opinion

Thanks guys! I was about to go iPhone. Just downloaded Flight Crew View and my Android has had its life extended.

Puffin browser also works well for full Flica access. Seems to load the site better than Chrome.

That's not the reason people want the app.

The app stores your schedule and allows offline access. The app easily allows you to press on the hotel name and dial the number. The app also allows you to tap on the flight number which does a Google search for the flight status and gate information. The app allows you to tap the airports and see current delays from / to those airports. The app allows one tap to see the crew members on your pairing. The app is a one tap away from an updated schedule. I can't login into FLiCA to check my schedule nearly as fast as I can with the app.

For all these reasons I am sold on the app.

Captain Tony 05-03-2014 06:47 AM

The FLiCA app is useless except to download and view your schedule while offline so you don't have to log into the company website. It's also useful because you can click on the hotel phone number to call the van. You're really not missing much, but yes Android sucks.

The reason you see iOS apps but not android is because the 10 Android platforms have no standardization, so they would have to write 10 different versions. Apple is one and done.

I see you know as much about coding apps as you do about commandeering RJs.

The app I was talking about is called Flight Crew View. It is for android. And it is much better than the FLiCA iOS app.

I only suggest Puffin as a supplement to the app. Puffin allows for trip trading and a few other things you can do on the full website but not on the app. The app is fantastic for viewing schedules, much easier than logging in via Puffin each time.
