Does Eagle really only require 200 XC?
I posted this question earlier in a different place but didn't find what I was looking for.
The AE careers page says 200 XC. APC.com says "ATP minimums & written." My friend at AE says that the employee referral page says 500 XC. So which is it? Help! I'm at 1250 TT/200 XC. The rest are met. Like others, I'm flying my @ss off, but building XC way to slowly. If AE really only requires 200 XC (R-ATP?), I could stay where I'm at until 1500 TT. (No college degree yet.) If they need 500 XC, then I've gotta start sniffing out a 135 job... I understand that a 135 job hauling cargo is likely the best route for building experience/confidence, but I can't help but feel a certain amount of pressure to get on the front end of this hiring thing. (Please, no lectures. I get it.) |

I think any ATP, restricted or otherwise only requires 200XC now. I might be mistaken though.

R-ATP category: 250 hrs CC, 1500TT
"A person who applies for an ATP certificate with restricted privileges may apply if he or she is at least 21 years of age and has at least 200 hours of cross-country flight time, provided that person also has 1,500 hours total time as a pilot and otherwise meets the aeronautical experience requirements of § 61.159."

Any airline (regional, for purposes of reality) is 200XC with the new RATP certificate as already described below.

Bzzt and RJ Pilot thinks that eagle is sinking, blah blah blah. No new planes, being divested and more blah blah blah. They will never tell you that we are losing a lot of pilots to other companies (LCC and Legacy airlines), we do have pilots flowing into AA indefinitely. In my view, you will not upgrade that fast, but will have constant movement. If you want to come to eagle, just apply and do a good interview. You will see a lot of doom and gloom here at APC. Take everything with a grain of salt. |

Yes we are losing people to other airlines and my seniority number has gotten better over the last 3 years however, my relative seniority has not changed since we declared bankruptcy. What this means is that while people are leaving you will not be upgrading even relatively quickly due to the list shrinking from both top and bottom + the loss of aircraft. We have closed bases in Boston, San Juan, and Los Angeles all in recent memory. Currently Republic is taking a large part of the Chicago flying. While I'm not saying Chicago is closing I am saying that you can't count on bases staying open at Eagle, or any other regional carrier for that matter. Another concessionary offer will soon be coming from the company, so our contract could be worse by the time you're on line, also PBS is about to be shoved down our throats which will adversely affect your quality of life. In summation there are better places to apply currently no matter where you live in the country. What you need to ask yourself is what does Eagle have that is better than other regionals. Other than our travel arrangement I can't give you a positive for this company. My advice is do your research and find a place with either a quick upgrade or a contract you could conceivably live with for the duration of your career. I don't believe Eagle offers either of those things. As to a divestiture that is off the table unfortunately. Divestiture was our best chance of success but unfortunately AMR tanked prior to is accomplishing that goal. |
I would like to point out that Cape Air is a decent company. There are no jets, but there are a lot of other qualities you will gain there. Probably keep a fairly positive attitude, and that means more in an interview than turbine time. Not discounting turbine time, it definitely required for some applications. But thinking from a recruiter standpoint, the overall disposition of a person means more once the numbers are met.
Edit: I do not support any company that continually insist on concessions. On the one hand, they want to give a sign on bonus and on the other, ask us to give back. Eventually people will burn it down internally. Not there yet, but the seeds are sown. This is my agenda, to dissuade people from coming here and encourage people to leave for greener pastures, until this attitude is turned. I have a feeling it's RJpilots agenda too. The difference is I admit it here. I highly doubt he actually believes the doom and gloom he preaches, but I understand why. |

Which is pretty much where you're at now. Now, the crunch is this. While there are 180 or so more planes in play, nothing says they HAVE to give them to a wholly owned. They will threaten you guys in some way soon. The key to remember is nobody else has the pilots to fly them. |
