Who will have no problem staffing?

There's about 20 regionals to chose from nowadays. If you just got your ATP and had your choice of any which would you choose?
Poll only allows for 10 so here's a few desperate candidates.

Which would you avoid?

coryk 11-28-2013 07:37 PM

Compass or Skywest.

... and to further that, you have offers from those two above. Which would you choose?

Cubdriver 11-28-2013 07:41 PM

XJT because several close friends work there and it's a southeastern company (plus Texas).

snippercr 11-28-2013 07:49 PM

What your post title asks and what your poll asks are 2 different things.

Your post title is in general, who we think will have no problem staffing their flying. I have 1 answer for that. Your poll is asking where I would go for which I have a different answer.

But again, when have internet forum polls ever had any significance?

Avroman 11-28-2013 07:50 PM

If I HAD to pick from that list today (offers from all). I go to Compass. The ones I RUN from are Endeavor, Republic, and Commutair. I walk quickly from Mesa and TranStates, I walk from ExpressJet and Eagle. Come to think of it, I'd moon this entire career and go do something worthwhile for my family.

My question is why people keep starting new threads about the same stuff over and over and over again.

And Newark, Chicago and soon to be as far West as Denver!

Why isn't GoJet listed?

Or PSA?

Yay!!!! I love it when people make decisions based off public opinion ....

It's actually a good question and one that new hires would do well to really research the prospective company. Do NOT choose a regional based on what equipment they fly or where the bases are or the pay. They are ALL equal within a couple hundred/month. In the last hiring wave I went from Zero time to Delta in 3 years and 10 months. My first emotional choice, strictly because of living in the NW was Horizon. I even interviewed with them, but didn't get the job. Thank god! I'd STILL be an FO with them. If I were starting out today, and knowing that the hiring wave is about to go NUTS the next 10 years I'd base my decision on where to go on one thing and one thing only: The size of the Pilot group. Why go to SkyWest with 3,000 +/- pilots? That means about 1500 CA's are going to have to be hired before a new hire will upgrade. Versus a SMALL regional like PSA, with 300'ish. Those top 150 are going to be GONE in a heartbeat. You'll be in the left seat at LEAST 5 years faster than a SkyWest or Express Jet new hire. That's a 1.5 million dollar career earnings difference. That's in today's pay. You'll be at xyz Major for 5 years longer. That means you'll enjoy 5 more years at the end of your career at the Max pay.

It makes all the difference in the world, for the rest of your career. Don't make an emotional decision, make a tactical one.

Best of Luck to you all and I look forward to the 7,000 new hires at DAL over the next 10 years!

^^^^ This and also how many 50 seats planes on property will play into my decision. Compass will be the top choice, then mesa. PSA has the 200s and we'll see what happens to them. In my view the larger regionals with the 50 seats planes are going to shrink if there's a shortage.

minimwage4 11-29-2013 07:51 AM

Yep all 50 seat airlines = no future.

9kBud 11-29-2013 10:08 AM

I only chose SKW for the bases.

TheFly 11-29-2013 06:31 PM

If the regionals can't keep up with hiring, I wonder if larger aircraft and less flights will be the remedy. I don't see any other way.

That is the way of the future.... both regional and mainline. Bigger planes=more people with fewer pilots.

NoLightOff 11-29-2013 08:21 PM

Lol at Endeavor voting trolls.

TheFly 11-30-2013 05:11 AM

I think this was mentioned on the majors section, but even the regional airlines are not hiring everyone that applies or even interviews. The cream of the crop are getting hired….first, then it seems after the first round drafts are done (so to speak), then the lesser qualified or desired applicants will be considered.
