AE to get a new name?

I heard a rumor that American eagle is to be renamed. If this is true what is the word on what it will be? I vote to follow the line that airways has in naming its regionals after airlines they have merged with. I vote for TWA.

I heard SureJet was available.

Rumor is it's gonna be Envoy.

Yep, what an awful name.

bretthull 12-19-2013 01:14 PM

What happened to Liberty?

Sadly even that is better than Envoy.

lolwut 12-19-2013 01:50 PM

They should name it "America West".

Liberty is an ex-Mesa certificate from the late 1980s early 1990s flying 1900s out of Pittsburgh.

Da Magic 12-19-2013 01:56 PM

Given the other wholly owned regional airlines of AAG are Piedmont and PSA I'm thinking TWA also.

But in the effort of having fun "Pearl Necklace Airline". We'll get you there, just not in my eyes.

baldrick 12-19-2013 02:03 PM

How about Trans National Airlines? Call sign TNA.

Da Magic 12-19-2013 02:10 PM

At TNA we go down!

aprilcoconut 12-19-2013 03:15 PM

It's renamed to be "Spread Eagle" Airlines.

CRM114 12-19-2013 03:21 PM

How about:

Pinnacle
Chaparral
Simmons
Wings West
or Executive?

(did I miss one?)

sulkair 12-19-2013 04:38 PM

Why change it? What's wrong with American Eagle? Pretty damn' cool name already if you ask me. "Envoy" Are you kidding me? These people need to start doing some serious focus group/market research - Gag!

AMERICAN EAGLE will still be painted in large letters on the side of the airplane.

'Operated by Envoy Airlines' will be painted in microscopic letters by the forward entry door -- just like Skywest, Republic, Expressjet, and Chautauqua who are now 'American Eagle' as well.

American Eagle is now a brand name. No different than United Express, Delta Connection, etc. Since everybody and their mother is now flying for American the real Eagle must change their name.

Even with that logic it isn't necessarily important to change the name, in fact it will cost the company money. No one buys a ticket on United Express, American Eagle, or Delta Connection. People buy their tickets on United, Delta, American. I don't really see what the "brand name" affects.

RyanP 12-19-2013 06:08 PM

That name just sounds like a gay cruise ship or something. Terrible. Hope that rumor is false. Would be embarrassing to say I work for Envoy.

Ok, but Envoy? "a messenger or representative, esp. one on a diplomatic mission." Really?!?!

Can someone tell me when imagination left the world of business? This is just lazy. Whatever.

RJ Pilot 12-20-2013 04:14 AM

What a way to tarnish what once was the best Regional with the best group of professional pilots. Now it has become a Mickey Mouse brand. Myself can't wait for the new name to come out, I will proudly say that I work for Envoy or whatever Name we become.

This way at least we can separate from the sub par groups.

What a shame.

Trogdor 12-20-2013 05:28 AM

Keeping with the tradition of using the name of recently merged airlines for the regional affiliates, they'll probably call it US Airways.

texaspilot76 12-20-2013 07:14 AM

Maybe they should rename them Comair, because they will probably face the same fate.
